im looking to buy a ipod touch but i dont know very much about them.. if some of you have them could you help me out here.

ive had a 30 GB Ipod 5th Gen since December 2005...

i only have 4.5 GB of songs on it now.

the 8GB would seem to be plenty for me... since i could still throw a couple movies on there.. and about a thousand more songs..

How much room do those Apps and games take up?

How much battery life do you get out of it typically?

Are you able to connect to WiFi fairly easy?

i heard that the 8GB model you can only put 3 pages of apps on and on the larger models you can have as many as you want.. does anybody know?

Thanks!!!

I have a friend who said he's got 4 gigs worth of apps. Didn't say how many pages worth of them it was, but there was no way he'd ever install even a quarter of them. The iPod touch is basically an iPhone without the phone. Connecting to wireless networks is easy - it pops up with available networks and you just click the one you want, type in the WEP key if it has one, and you're off. From then on it remembers that network just like a laptop would and automatically connects when it finds that network.

I think the iPod touch is solid state media, whereas the 5th gen iPod 30 gig is still a spinning hard drive. That means the internals themselves are much more robust, faster, and more durable since there's no moving parts in it. The kicker for me is the screen. I'm way to clumsy and would probably crack the screen. But then again, whatever I'd do to crack the screen on an iPod touch would easily break the hard drive on a 30gig iPod, so maybe I'm just paranoid.

Battery life I'm not sure about for the touch. My fiance's iphone though is surprisingly long lasting. Watched a whole movie on it driving back from South TX and still had about half it's battery. Obviously for longer battery when you're not using the internet just disable the wi-fi and that'll bump up the life too.

Hope that helps a little.

Ive got the 16GB ipod touch 2nd Gen...I bought it before i left for vacation this winter...worked great. The wireless is what i really wanted, and it picks up signals great...Basically just a iphone without the phone. I was on the airplane for about 13 hours, and played (The Price is Right) for about 4 hours straight, and the battery just went down slightly....Seems like you can listen to music for much longer, I would say around 6-7 hours....The applications are really small, so you should have enough room for everything; music, pics, videos, apps..

Great thing, you'll love it for sure.

8Gig is probably more then enough, apps don't take up that much space. And if you don't use the program, just delete it.

Music and especially movies will add up. As they say, more is better, also giving you some bragging rights.

Why don't you consider an iPhone 3G? Does the same AND you can use it as a ehmm... phone. They come in 8 and 16Gig and are probably cheaper, with a plan. Also updates are usually free, with a touch you have to pay (not much but still).

I've got an 16G iPhone and love it.

I have the new ipod touch. It is awesome I have wireless internet and can access the internet in the house. I have almost 1000 songs (I am addicted to itunes), 25 pics and a bunch of apps. I also download my graduate tv course and watch those. I have used about half of my 8 gb. I think 8 is plenty for me. My brother has the 32 and is nowhere near filling it.

I have the first gen 16GB iTouch, but since I got the iPhone, it's been collecting dust. On my iPhone I have 2 pages of apps. Some applications are 50KB some are 50MB, so it totally depends on which app you will be downloading to determine the total size. I listen to music on my iPhone, talk, txt (a lot), and watch movies...lasts about a day. And yes the Wi-Fi does connect very easily, just turn it on and select a network, enter password and it will connect.

well i am going tomorrow and looking at a 16GB Ipod touch to see what kind of deal and how much it will be with a 2 year warranty through best buy.

Also do you guys have cases?

Posted

1) iPod 16 Gb is awesome.

2) I work for Best Buy, and let me tell you that from what I've seen, the protection plan is awesome (I've got it on mine)

3) I've got a hardshell case that kicks a$$

4) If you don't get a case go for the clear screen protector. I've got both, but I'm just paranoid like that.

:D
