Engine Down

My dad's 2007 Silverado 5.3L LT2 is in the sick bay.

They stripped down the motor and found a bent connecting rod! They can't figure out what happened to it. Obviously still on warranty and we wanted them to put in a new drop in but got the bad news about a week ago from gm canada that they have to repair it. At first they wanted to just put in a new connecting rod and piston but we finally convinced them to put in a new crank and injector as well. No fault of my dealer but the truck has been down for about 4 weeks thanks to gm canada debating on whether or not to put in a drop in motor. Really frustrating!!!!! Just hope it holds together when we get it back. Wondered if anyone else had similar problems?

I haven't heard anything like that. What cylinder was it on

I think it was #7 but i'd have to double check. Supposed to get it back 2mmorrow. Maybe it was just a freak thing.

things like that make working for big companies irritating. One person ultimately had that decision on your vehicle whether or not to drop in a new motor and it took them that long to decide? That's BS, make the damn decision and run with it.

Intake manifold leak? You don't just bend connecting rods for no reason. Gotta be a hydraulic.

Still haven't got the truck back! They put it all back together and then test drove it for a day and bent the same connecting rod. So finally they are putting in a new motor.

Definitely something wrong with that engine if it's bent the same connecting rod twice. Glad to hear they're replacing the engine now.

WOWSERS! happend twice? I`d really like to know what was causing it! kinda weird! maybe a shorted injector harness?

man that is CRAZY sounds like something is wrong with the cylinder wall or something to pinch the piston or something to BEND a connecting rod. HMMMM if only they dropped a new one in the first time. Sorry bout your luck man! :)

What would a Intake manifold leak have to do with it??

that does suck that it bent it twice. I would have said either the leak or the casting of the actual cylinder wall may have caused it...it does happen but not as frequently.

What type of leak would you get from the intake manifold of a 5.3L ?? Other than a vacume leak??
