Maghytec Stainless Bolt Question

This may be in the wrong forum, if so, I apologize.

Has anyone installed a MagHytec cover/pan and had the stainless bolts work themselves loose?

My dad installed a new fuel pump on a '70 Chevelle with the bolts from the ARP stainless bolt set for a small block 350, and the pump fell off, he never had that before. We also purchased a '72 El Camino that someone had installed one of those lovely ARP stainless bolt sets on, and every one of those stainless bolts was loose enough I could turn it with my fingers.

That is why I am asking about the MagHytec stuff. I would like to hear from anyone, if you've had a MagHytec cover on for 30k miles and it's never loose, or if you put one on and the bolts were loose after 100 miles, or anywhere in between, please chime in. I plan on checking them like I check everything else, but if some say they loosen up right away, I won't even bother with them and find replacements before installing. But if the general consensus is that they stay, I'll just keep an eye on them.

Just put some low strength loctite on the threads, that'll keep it from vibrating out...It's possible with some plates to do that as the rear end is subject to a LOT of vibration from going over the road, hitting pot holes, speed bumps, curbs etc...It takes a lot more strain than most other components on a vehicle.

No. I have both trans and diff cover. They have been on for three years and have never come loose. I torque them with a torque wrench to the specs suggested by Mag Hy-tec. Works for me. :D

Loctite, I don't know why this great product always leaves my mind, I think I'll do that.

Stage 8

That's an interesting product, I'll have to keep that one in mind for other projects.

I'm hoping ARP just used a different alloy of stainless or something so they had bolts that would loosen up. I need to get a better torque wrench, mine is a clicker that barely clicks at 40 ft lbs (Hardbor Freight).

Thanks for all the input.

Loctite's one of those great products that always seem to slip everyone's minds til something really important falls out haha, I have 2 tubes of the stuff that I keep forgetting I have.

+1 on the Loctite.

Also, as a general rule, after a mod, after the first trip or two in the vehicle, I recheck all bolts. The heat cyclcing may loosen the bolts, and once they are a little loose, they will work themselves out.

Just got my MagHytec cover today, beefy cover.

Anyways, these bolts are stainless but not really shiny. The ARP bolts in that kit have to be chrome plated or something. That has to be the cause of them loosening up. I'll still be using some blue Loctite just for insurance.
