Dimples On Roof

SO I de-glazed the salt from my truck today...temps got into the 50s for the first time in what seems like months.

Washed the truck... cleaned the floor liners, vacuumed her out, etc, etc. Decided to clean the winders real good, look at the roof line above the passenger's door, and..... WTF !

Take a look:

Looks like a weld seam, or something. Looks like a trip to the dealer...

very prominent when you run your finger along them. Anyone else have this?

Ouch man...bad luck.

I agree though...it looks like a defect. It does not look random in any way...like you may see from hail or the like.

Off topic...what kind of camera do you have?

You're the aero guy, you should know that they're there to make the truck more aerodynamic (like the dimples on golf balls).

Yeah, I agree. The skin friction on the passenger's side is lower. I'll check if it pulls to the left on the way in... :idiot:

Wow is this the first time you noticed them being you have a 07? (dont mean it to be smart) Kinda looks like hail damage but there in a row, maybe something fell on your truck.

The weld seam runs along the extreme outer edge where the door overlaps the roofline on these trucks. Pull the rubber back at the top of the door opening and you will see the spot welds. The place where those dents are is a hollow space. Not trying to go against you or anything but that looks like some kind of "damage" to me (as in not a stress related distortion). They are rather are obvious dents once clean I bet. It certainly is in an odd place.

after a bad hail storm a while back, my roof looked just like that... maybe the angle of the hail was coming hit that spot just right..i had pd removal done and it looks 100%. maybe not hail that caused your dents but it sure looks like what mine did...

It does look like hail, but we haven't had a hail storm here as long as i can remember. When I lived in Texas, ya got hail storms that could do this kind of thing.

Here in SW Ohio, hail that could do THIS is rather uncommon. Then, wouldn't the whole roof look like that? It clearly looks like some kind of manufacturing defect to me.

Strange that it is along (almost) a perfect line like it is.....
