3.42 Gearing With 6-speed

Can a 3.73 gear, or lower, be swapped into the 3.42 axle? Will it mess up the internal transmission programming?

You can run any rear gear you want. If the sluggish acceleration you are talking about is off of the line, it probably isn't the gear. It's the nannies. Torque management doesn't allow off of the line antics. You have to get a tune to get rid of that.

Your final drive ratio with your 6 spd and 3.42's is lower than a 4 spd with 4.10's.

 

I do not recall the ratios for the 6 spd, but if you do the math, you will see what I mean. The 6 spd has a very tall 1st gear.

VMax is right. 1st gear ratio with 3.42-6spd is lower than 4.10-4spd. I believe this carries thru 5th gear.

i got 3.28's i believe want to put 3.73's in the rear end that should give me 4l60 a lil more jump off the line hehe
