I have a 2007 GMC, when I break from speeds greater than 20 mph I have a strong vibration. It has progressively gotten worse. My buddy at work is having the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

A few questions

1) Are your wheels stock?

2) How many miles do you have?

3) Have you ever taken your tires off for any type of maintenance or rotation?

in this day & age , metal quality has hit an all time low , i would not rule out warpped rotors or over torqed lugnuts

Hmmmm... ok a few more questions:

4) Does the brake pedal pulsate

5) Does the steering wheel vibrate

6) Does the vibration get worse after driving for a little bit

7) Open ended essay question: Describe the vibration is as much detail as possible  (but seriously..)

4) No

5) Yes

6) It gets worse when slowing down from higher speeds.

7) Its a pretty violent fast shake almost like going over rumble strips but without the noise.

PS I was thinking warped rotors

PSS Skier when you getting the new tires to accent the Body Lift, It looks good

+1 Warped rotors if you KNOW the tires and wheels are OK.

Yea... from all of your answers warped front rotors are the most logical explanation. I'd get them turned down (you can tell if they're warped when they're being cut)

PSS: New tires are going on as soon as i sell either my current set or some OEM 18s... cant have 2 sets of new wheels/tires sitting in the garage :D .... and thanks man

Hey all, new to the site and this is my first post. I have the same issue that Sigma has. I have a 2007 Classic Ext cab with 27,000 miles. I have upgraded to 20" Boss 307 wheels and Falken tires. I noticed the same vibration and it was really bad when exiting the interstate at 60+ mph. It almost sounded like a Jake Brake. I bought brand new front rotors and installed last week, torqued the lugs properly, and still have the same vibration. I have drums in the back so I don't think they could be warped.

I am usually pretty tech saavy, but I'm stumped. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It has to be in the tires/wheels somewhere. This is all too common with aftermarket wheels. Are you sure your wheels are hub centric? It's really important on these trucks.

Thanks, I never thought about adding hub centric rings. As soon as the rain quits I'll go measure the rims and see if that's the issue.

Thanks again!!

Also check to see if the factory hold down clips have been removed. There are small clips pushed over the wheels studs to retain the drums and rotors when the trucks are assembled. The factory wheels have a tiny indentation along/behind each mounting hole to allow room for these clips. When changing to aftermarket wheels, if these clips are not removed from the wheel studs, the wheel can't sit 100% flush with the drum or rotor and will end up causing vibration. Double check to make sure those clips aren't still on your wheel studs.

Thanks for the reply Scottie. I don't think the clips are there, since I have already removed the stock rotors and replaced them, but I will look.

This site is great, thanks for the help.

Those clips are on the drums in the rear and are the cause for vibration 90% of the time when someone says "i just put on new wheels/tires and now the truck shakes".

So check those rear drums for the clips and you'll be golden
