Rear End Chatter When Turning

Recommended Posts

I everyone, I'm new here. I have a few problems (both rear end related) and wondering if someone can help. My vehicle is a 2006 GMC Sierra crew cab two wheel drive 5.3L with a 3.23 positraction rear end. It has 36,200 mi. on it.

First problem is excessive rear end whine on decel even when the radio is at moderate levels.

Second, I get alot of rear end chatter when turning if the rear end spins off a stop(from snow). If I turn left or right off a stop from a snow area, then onto dry asphalt, the rear end chatters like it's a solid axle the way my race car used to chatter when turning in the pits.

I haven't done anything yet. I'm looking for some ideas or recommendations.

Thanks, in advance.

Thats because you have a G80 locker not posi traction.

Not the best video, but the really good one is gone.

Don't know about the whine but usually indicates wear. Have you checked the fluid level? The "chatter" is normal locker operation. When one tire spins it makes the rear lock both wheels. When you turn the outside wheel must turn faster than the inside. If they are locked one will "chatter". Lifting off the gas should unlock. Again check the fluid level.
