Gm Sales Way Down

Recommended Posts

GM car and truck sales fell 52% in February '09 compared to their sales in February '08. Ford sales were down 48%.

Hopefully there will be good bargains out there this spring.

There are great deals to be had right now :uhoh:

They do not have such great deals on the '09 trucks right now.

The new incentives are alright. A crew cab has either $4000 rebate or 0% financing

That's the same deal they had in March of last year, so not much different. That said, GM can't give away vehicles forever, they will continue to cut production to the point where they are more balanced with demand. BTW, what's the cutoff date for special orders?

Give them away? Hardly. If you have not noticed, they jacked up the prices of some of their more economical models to ridiculous levels. The HHR is a good example. What started out as a low priced competitor to the Chrysler's PT cruiser, is now an overpriced, underpowered small wagon, hardly worth another look. They have had several within- the- year price increases on it, and then they offer a $ 1000 rebate on it (only recently increased to $ 2500 due to lackluster sales)after having increased the sticker price by about $ 3k in just two years? I call BS on this one. The vehicle is made in Mexico BTW, so manufacturing costs are much lower than for the US made vehicles.

GM is playing some of us for fools. I was seriously interested either in Cobalt or HHR as my work car, but their pricing and piss poor deals on these made me look elsewhere.

And take a look at the prices of some large SUV, like Suburbans. $ 55k sticker for a 2009 Mexican made LT2 Suburban? With only about $ 5k in total discounts?

You're right about the "jacked up sticker prices". I stopped by a dealer recently and noticed a '09 that looked about the same as my 08, and on first glance, in about the same price range. I looked it over and noticed that it had a couple more gizmos, maybe $1k worth or so. Good so far, but then I was shocked. It was 2wd and priced $2k "higher" than my 2008 4wd. Hmmm... However, the real question would be, what is "invoice" on the new price scheme.

My statement above was just an obvious "business" statement. They have to find the sweet spot for pricing vs production, as all other companies are doing, and can't resort to "giving them away" at or below actual cost. I've never liked the smoke and mirror pricing crap... and never will.

They don't?? I got over $7K off just two weeks ago. I think that was a pretty good deal on a truck with a $34K sticker.

I got almost 10k of my sticker when i bought my 05, hell i would think these dealers dont have a pot to piss in right now, if this is the way they are pricing i can see why sales are off by over 50%!

I don't suppose you happen remember what the deals were in April last year too? My truck will either come in late this month or next.

Yes, I remember because I was truck shopping Feb/Mar/Apr. Bought mine in April. The April incentives were identical to what they had in March.

You know... I'll bet the reason that sales are down is because there ain't nobody buying them :)

Back in August 08 I got $10k off my truck and the dealer gave me the payoff amount on my last truck.

I remember that back in '04 they were discounting Z71 crew cabs by as much as $ 12k of the sticker. In '05 you could get about $ 10k off. And GM sales were in way better shape then than they are now.

Actually you got only about $ 5k off compared to the '08 prices, because they jacked up the prices by about $ 2k on the '09s. So nothing to write home about. You would have got $ 10k off last year.

    • .30” of rain all month and it’s been weeks since that. “Mowed” our two properties today for the first time since July 2nd. It only took 30 minutes because all I had to do was level some weeds and saplings in a few problem areas. Everything else is dead.
    • Dealer reported a failed shifter module assembly so the whole shifter is getting replaced. Yet another premature repair… up to $12,000+ in extended warranty payout in only 5 years and 80,000 miles!
    • According to the dealer it’s an internal leak/failure of the compressor.  Again, another failure that shouldn’t happen at only 5 years and 80k miles.  For some reason the compressors must be hard to come by right now, because the truck’s been at the dealer almost a week and they just located a compressor at another dealer several states away today.  We’ll see if this fixes the issue.
    • I'm not sure if this should be a reply on this thread or a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - ACDelco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles. When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so i did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance.
    • I wasn’t commenting on your post. Certainly wasn’t arguing. I was making an observation on my long term experience with supposedly proper length of driving for proper heat cycles. Works for me. Although I have seen water or vapor come out of exhaust when vehicles weren’t run very long and shut off. It’s very humid in the morning. Then hot and humid.
