Window Tinting

Well, in my mod request thread it seemed that quite a majority suggested I tint my windows. I wanted to see how much tint yall think I should go with. There's a truck outfitter shop in town that does all kinds of work so I'll have them do it.

I did go through a few search threads but most of them were for people trying to match their extended cab windows. I've got just a standard cab. I'd like to have an extended cab but I'm not ready to go buy a new one just so I can match the rear window tint. :D

Anyhow, I just checked a few minuted ago on my truck and all four windows are 70% from the factory. Maryland law has 35% as the limit.

I was thinking going either:

1.)35% on both side windows and rear window

or

2.)Just put one foot over the line :D and go maybe something like 25% or 20% side windows and 30% or 25% rear window.

Does that sound good or can someone else suggest a better combo? I do a bit of driving at night and on backroads at that. I don't want to go so dark that it starts to hinder my sight but enough to make my truck look better.

Does Maryland allow darker tint on rear windows? I know in WI, you can have 35% on the rear windows and 50% on the driver and passenger windows. I know a few guys who have 35% tint on the front windows, and IMO, it isn't worth it to go that light.

I think I would go 15% all the way around. It isn't bad sitting inside, but its harder to see in from the outside which allows some privacy. It does kind of suck backing up at night with the windows up if you use the mirrors, but thats minor.

I always go 15% all the way around on everything we buy. The interior color of your truck will make a difference on how dark the tint looks as well. 15% will appear lighter on a cashmere interior vs ebony.

you could do 20% on the back window and 35% on the front ones you will be surprised at how much that will change it. i have 15% stacked on 5% in the back and 35% in the front yes the back is really really dark but thats how i want it so no one can see in :D and the front is somewhat dark just because the back lets no light in. and 35% is not a waste. getting pulled over and getting a ticket not worth it to me i mean you pay for the window tint just to have to pull it off and get a ticket to pay for just MO.

My drivers and pass are 20%. I was told the factory rear windows were close to 20% so that is why I went with 20%. Some times I think it looks dark and other times I think it doesn't look very dark.

I did my rear 3 with 15% and it is a little darker than one that came stock with tinted windows and I can still see pretty well in the dark.

It is worth noting that laws vary on tint a lot from state to state. Here in Texas they aren't too strict on enforcement but some places are much worse. Might want to look into that first.

You definetely need to check local laws AND ask your window tinter about the actual enforcement in the state/city you reside in. I have 5% on the front two and two layers of 15% on the rear side windows and back glass with is just slightly darker than the 5% (Last I heard 5% was the legal limit on darkness in Oklahoma). I personally have had no problems at all with police giving me a hard time about my tint except driving in Dallas once but he seemed to be a rookie and saw the tint before he saw the Oklahoma tag and sent me on my merry way!

I agree with the clown. Check the laws in your state and then balance your decision with "level of enforcement" in your state. In Texas there is virtually NO enforcement of tint laws and I've been running illegal tint on all my vehicles for over 20 years and never been pulled over or asked about my tint. One time recently I was with a friend who was pulled over by a state trooper, he measured the tint with a meter and commented to us that it was illegal but did not write a ticket or tell him to remove it.

Your truck would look good with 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear as long you get non-metallic, non-ceramic, smoke color tint. The standard tint I suggest looks darker then the "reflective" tints so 35% in standard looks considerably darker then 35% metallic or ceramic (plus it doesn't have a silvery sheen to it). Around here it's about $50 to get the front doors tinted, probably another $50-70 for the rear glass. If the laws are not a concern to you then consider 20% all around or 20% on the doors and 5% on the rear glass (my eyes are too old now to see out of 5% at night but I still have no problems with 15-20%).
