Since you have the HD..............Exactly which tires are on it? The factory LT 245-16 deathstones maybe?

If so I hear ya about having a bouncy ride.

My cure was to get lucky and have the GM dealer reprogram the TPMS system (with the Tech 2) from the 50 frt. 80 rear factory setting to 45 lbs on all 4 so I could run 45-50 lbs. (WHILE NOT TOWING) for a smoother ride.

Works quite well and took out most of the bouncy-ness

over bumps and expansion joints.

The problem is finding a GM dealer that would be willing to reset your TPMS for different tire pressures because of the dreaded "liability" issue !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to mention if you want to switch the tires to a

passenger rated tire (which run at lower pressures

as well as lower weight ratings) for a softer ride

again your gonna run into the dreaded TPMS warnings

and SES messages........................

thanks for reply my oem tire 265/70/17 my question :changing tyre manufacture (currently goodyear) to michlean or BGF is it going to make difference and if so which one to choose between these brand?

If its a daily driver and you want to have a soft ride then why do you have a HD? Do you tow heavy? If you go with a less ply tire then your tow rating will go down so why even have it. Not trying to be a smartass here but just wondering. Alot of tire companys will not put a lower rated tire on the truck then what it calls for.

Tire pressure is a large part of your problem. Drop the pressure to 35 psi and take it for a drive. I know the TPMS will alert you but do it just to prove the ride issue point. You'll be amazed at the difference. 35-40 psi is plenty of pressure for a daily driver. I'd air up for towing or heavy hauling. Many people have done this for years before TPMS.

True..................He could just try running a lower pressure to check it

out and if it works the problem woould be finding a dealer that would

reprogram the PCM with the Tech-2 (which from posts here is almost

impossible).

As far as pushing the reset/clear message button on the DIC control

to clear the TPMS warning message/SES light.

That will only work for so long till you have a constant SES light

and a service TPMS message on the DIC display.

And as some of you guys know that in certain states (like NY) that

if you have a SES message/light showing you get a automatic FAILURE

on your required yearly state inspection.

Been there and done that till a NICE dealer took pity on me and

hooked me up and did a PCM change with the Tech 2 under warranty.

On the GMT900's, that info is NOT in the PCM (ECM on the new trucks). It is stored in the RDLM (Remote Door Lock Module).

MR EXPERT: WHEREVER the info is stored it can only be changed by the Tech 2!

Plain and simple !

The Ford boys at PUTC are waiting for you and want to

ask about your MEXICAN made gmc truck since you are so pro American!

Also don't forget to remind them about those crappy ghetto wheels of yours

that are pitted and junk already !

I am sure the toyoyo boys will love to hear that one since you proclaim to

be such a saavy consumer as well as a know it all !

Go to a BFG load range D and have them put nitrogen in them. Nice and smooth compared to the E rated. Like said above, don't have the psi too high when not towing or hauling.

I dont know if its since my 2500 HD is an '07 but I have been just running 50 lbs and resetting the warning. When I air up to tow it all goes off. I dont like having the stupid light on but It leaves with higher air pressure. All this has pissed me off from the very beginning as nobody should ever be running around in an empty 3/4 ton truck with 80 psi in the rear tires. There couldnt be a more unsafe condition unless it was raining. Then you might as well be on ice. But dont worry big brother is watching out for you. That and the dems in congress and obama will soon have new tax on fuel and the use of vehicles which dont get sensible fuel economy. This will be so we can reduce our dependance on forign oil...that way we will never have to use our own oil....The misquitoes in Alaska will be safe and we will have to stop driving our beloved trucks. So just lower the air pressure or enjoy the bouncy ride while you still can.

Im also not trying to be a wiseass, but a harsh ride is part of owning an HD. One of the things that I commend GM for on the HD lineup is not compromising towing, payload, and loaded handling to get a smoother ride. Thats not what an HD truck was designed and built for. I'm not one for downgrading the tires because it destroys the purpose of a heavy duty truck, should you ever need it. And lowering the air pressure generally means more heat, premature tire wear, decreased fuel economy, and unnecessary strain on the driveline. Not to mention the voiding of warranties when its discovered that the tires were intentionally underinflated. These trucks are meant to be load haulers and trailer yankers. When I put 2400 lbs of concrete blocks in the back of mine, the suspension was nicely leveled, and it rode smooth as a big luxury car. So before making foolish modifications to tires and pressure just to get a smoother ride, try simply throwing a little weight in the bed. That will calm the ride down a great deal. Or, if you can't stand it anymore trade the big HD for a 1500.

Totally right about getting a half ton. But if your going to be empty for weeks between using the vehicle for its intended purpose theres no safety issue with dropping the pressure. 80 psi in the rear is rated pressure at full rated load. That combined with the heavy suspension makes for a very unsafe condition that is easily fixed by dropping pressure. The tires wont wear pre maturely. Some fuel might be lost. Provided you have the ability to add or drop air at your disposal theres no issue. I do have a beater Ford Taurus I pretend to use to comute but it stays parked because I would rather be in the truck loaded or empty. If I have to choose which vehicle to take for a quart of milk Im still takin the truck. I like the ride. But I dont leave 80 psi in the rear unless I have max loads. I never really thought about it much because I have my tool air supply at my disposal always. Right now I have 65 in the rear and 55 in the front. My boat is the heaveyest thing I usually haul and it weighs 5000 lbs, plus trailer and fluids. No biggie for the truck and I wouldnt bat an eye to haul it with 65 lbs in the tires. It takes a lot of highway miles to start developing enough heat to worry about. For me the issue is the nanny tps warning me of impending doom. M.R.

    • How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit.
    • Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?
    • What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way to big should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crosing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
