Want Dual Exhaust Without Waking Up The Neighbors!

Hey...

I want to put dual exhaust on my 2003 GMC Sierra with 5.3L V8, but I don't want much more 'volume' that what I have with the stock muffler.

I want to do 'true duals' with just a LITTLE MORE rumble. Something that doesn't sound 'tinny' or rap at high revs would work. So far, I've found Gibson, but there isn't a Gibson dealer here.

Any other ideas you guys might have would be great. I've done a bunch of searching, but all the suggestions (Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Borla, etc) are just too loud for my tastes (no offense to you "window rattlers" out there). Thanks, guys!!

I had a magnaflow system on my Silverado. It wasn't that loud at all. Try using the search function, lots of topics on exhausts.

You could go with a CORSA Touring version. It is under 95dB under full throttle and FMVSS compliant for OE's. Way too quiet for me, but you may like. www.corsaperformance.com

I had a magnaflow system on my Silverado. It wasn't that loud at all. Try using the search function, lots of topics on exhausts.

I know about search, but everything I find on there is a little too loud for me. I like yours, though. Any idea what size mufflers are in your system? Anyone with the 5"x11"x22" Magnaflow "non-polished stainless" mufflers?

Part number on the Magnaflow I'm looking at is 12588

I have the GMPP system (made by Borla) on my 03 Silverado 5.3L. It is not too loud at all. It sounds great when you really stomp on it but is not much different than the quiet stock exhaust on the highway. The install is easy and fitment is perfect. However, it is a little pricey. 5 X 8 X 16in Dual Outlet Muffler, 3in System, 2.5in Tail Pipes, 3.5in Polished Tips, DUAL REAR EXIT

#16741...and it was a stainless steel system.

First let me say I am not hammering dual exhaust. It has its place, but it is overkill on a basically stock truck. Plus you need to make sure to run some sort of cross over pipe.

What I would do depends on your budget and where you live. If budget isn't a problem I would go Corsa Touring. It has just a nice mellow tone, but not a lot louder than stock. If you want to go more budget minded I would get either a flowmaster 70 series, the longest magnaflow muffler you can get, or a corsa (can't remember if its the corsa black) in a single in, dual out and have a muffler shop make you a custom cat back.

I mention where you live, because if you live with a lot of nasty weather, you may want to go with a stainless system like the corsa. I live in texas, so it really doesn't matter for me.

If you go with a custom built system from a shop, you will have enough money left over to have Justin (Blackbear Performance) give you a custom tune. Then your truck will run better than it sounds.
