So, I Am Ordering A New Truck Today...

Hey guys. I need some last minute advice before I order today. I have searched and read tons of old post but could not find any info regarding these two questions. Basically, the truck is a 1500SLT with the All Terrain package. I am going with the 5.3L, but am unsure if I should get the flex fuel 5.3? Any issues with that motor or is it the same as the gas 5.3? None of the dealers in BC actually have an All Terrain in stock, so this second question may seem a little dumb. I am considering the two tone interior with the Morrocco/Black interior. In the GM sales book, the color appears to be a reddish brown. In all the internet pics seem rather orange. Could someone who has seen it in person comment? Thanks a bunch.

They're the same price.. Why not get the one that "can" run FlexFuel, just to give you more options, on down the road? They've been around for a few years now. I haven't heard of any major recalls related specifically to the FlexFuel engines...

Congrats on the new truck. It sounds like it is going to be sweet!

If you are ordering, I would go ahead and get the flex fuel. I don't think it adds to the price and when you sell it, someone may want it. I am not a big fan, but you don't have to run it. I would say if they can get it in sooner without it, then don't sweat it.

I personally really like the two tone in the all terrains. From what I have seen the color tends to be more toward the red/brown.

Make sure to let us see some pics when you get it.

I just ordered mine and i did not like the brown because the lt titanium kinda went with the brushed alluminum dash too. If you like the two tone brown then you should get it, IMO looks bad. Can you even order it anymore because i didnt see it when i was building it online.

ohhh and 5.3 flex is good but 6.2 for me baby!!!

I would get the flex fuel it dose not hurt to have it. I have ran 3or 4 tanks through mine didn't really notice a differance. But I have it if I want to use it.

Congrats on the new truck order!

I haven't heard of any issue particular to FlexFuel 5.3's. I would go with the FlexFuel engine for the better resale value as more ethanol stations appear.

I've got the Flex Fuel motor in my All Terrain, and I've had no issues with it. One thing I'll mention is that with an E85-capable engine, you get upgraded from steel and rubber fuel lines and injector seals/etc. to stainless lines and nylon/synthetic gaskets -- my thinking is these should last longer than the regular steel, which could corrode over time from exposure to the elements. Just like the way a stainless exhaust lasts longer. To me, that makes the E85 motor a bit of an advantage, instead of a disadvantage.

Good luck with the new order!

I just received my 09 that I ordered about 6 weeks ago. I opted for the Z-71 off road package which gives it a nice off road stance. I did also get the tan leather instead of the charcoal just to be different. I did not order the flex fuel because I will never use it.

Hey Fellow BC'er,

Congrats on the new truck and I guess I would go with the Flex Fuel option if it doesn't add more cost. However, do you think a lot of gas stations around the GVR area will have E85 at their stations? I doubt it. Just my 2cents is all....

get the flex fuel to have the capability. Never know what will happen in the future maybe they will finally have a fuel that is made from something else and cheaper (like sugar down in south america)

Thanks everyone. I went with the flex fuel (free upgrade so why not) and chickened out and went with the ebony interior rather than the 2 tone brown. Had to factory order as none of the dealers around here (ok, in the whole province) thought it wise to order a 1500 with the GAT package. Funny thing is, I'll miss my '86 GMC 3/4t 4X4.
