Ford Caught In A Lie

I found this article that someone did regarding the claim that the f-150 can tow 11,000 pounds and normally I would not read such trash, but being a towing guy, I was intrigued. In the end it was an excellent article on towing and where good sense overcomes advertising BS.

You won't see me trying to tow 11k in an F150. I've towed that much in my Cummins and while the truck was fully capable, it wasn't the funnest trip. If that much weight was behind an F150, the trailer would be in control of the truck.

Let's hope that people that tow that much realize it's too much for a half ton, regardless of ratings, especially with the gutless 5.4.

sounds like a pinto mentality again, let the wrecks clear it all up instead of saying that we "ford" were wrong in our advertisement

I'd pull that weight!

These tests are done in a controlled, ideal enviroment, not real world scenarios. A cummins for instance could pull an 18-wheeler trailer, has the power and torque, I have seen it done. But could it stop in an emergency? Hell no it cant. Yeah the ford can probably pull 11,500, but no one with half a brain will do it.

You all are wrong, people have done it and will do! I wont or dont, but like you said anyone with a half of a brain would not! Nice read!

There are idiots among us. I once came up on a wreck where a Ford Ranger pulling a backhoe on a tandem axle trailer lost it trying to brake on a curve and jackknifed into the ditch about 20 feet below road grade. It was a very ugly scene. 5 Mexican construction guys were in the cab. 2 didn't go home that night.

Only a nut would try to tow huge loads with a vehicle not designed to handle it. All it takes is one miscalculation and you're history.

I drove a Ford with a 5.4 and a 11K+ tow rating (F250) for a month, and despite being technically capable of the load I cannot see using a 5.4 for towing anything. Then there was the brakes which work great unless you make the mistake of activating ABS which is sure to put you into the back of another vehicle.

They may be gutless, but they do have torque, which our 5.3 unfortunately lacks. We've got the 6.0 and now the 6.2 for that department, though, so we're good.

Yeah, that's why there's a couple nice cams out there for the 5.3 that will eat the 5.4's lunch in torque.
