2009 Silverado - Good Buy Or ?

A friend of mine is very serious about buying a new 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 Pickup with 4 WD, the 4L60E transmission (4 speed automatic) and the 4.8 liter V8 engine.

Are there any problems with any parts of the powertrain...engine, transmission, 4 WD system...rear axle....or anything else...ie; front end, etc.

At most he would use it for light towing, daily driving and hunting...so the 4 WD could come into fair use.

I thought there might be some problems with the intake manifold or gasket...but I might be thinking of something else.

Experiences ?

watch out for the 4.8, if you have 3;42 gears and God forbid think about 20 inch wheels. I will be down shifting all the time.

i have that exact combination and it downshifts sometimes but nothing i would consider excessive. my daily commute is pretty conducive to downshifting too...a hilly interstate with 70mph speed limits.

OP, i've only owned the 4.8L with 4sp AT since december, but so far i'm very happy with it.

The drivetrain is pretty bulletproof. You can't go wrong with a Chevy small block drivetrain. The transmission will also be fine if you don't abuse it or supercharge the piss out of your engine.

I've got the 4.8L and 22" wheels, but it is a 2wd. No complaints from me, and not one single issue so far.

Bought new in August 2008.

Hey Les, did you know that there is a fellow with the same name as you buried in the Boothill cemetery in Tombstone, Arizona and on his tombstone is the following epitaph:

"Here lies Les Moore

Four slugs from a 44

No Les, No Moore"

And no, I am not making this up. The guy died in a gunfight in the 1800's.

I just verified that the rear window defogger has been removed as standard equipment from LT equipment Silverados. Not too smart GM.

And sticker prices of 2009 2WD trucks with the same equipment are now about the same as 2008 4WD trucks. Which does not make 2009 such a great deal. Fewer discounts and a VERY substantial price hike over the 2008 model, plus deleting standard equipment on top of it.

So you get less for more.

And I'm sure all the fanboys will soon come to the rescue and say, I NEVER use my window defroster.
