Nav Install 09 Sierra

I know there have been a bunch of people who have posted similar items but I have not seen this radio or this truck yet. I have installed several radios including amps and subs, but I have to say this was the most tricky. I went into this install thinking that it would be just like any other install. Boy was I wrong!! The first surprise was when I went to crutchfield and find out needed this GMLAN unit instead of a wiring harness. I then saw that I could buy the steering wheel controls which I definitely wanted. Now the the steering wheel controls is made by PAC so out of curiosity I wanted to see if the made a unit like the GMLAN-01, and they did it was the PAC OS-4. So I called a crutch field rep and asked what the difference was (besides price the PAC was and extra $70) He told me that he could not really tell and that he was showing that the GMLAN-01 was the right one for my truck and that it was not worth spending the extra money. I agreed and purchased the GMLAN-01, the PAC SWI-JACK, the install kit and the antenna adapter that is needed. Now I do not blame the rep too much as the truck is new but the end result is I ended up installing everything and then taking it all apart as it did not work 100% (in fact I took it apart around 4-5 times). The bluetooth lost the voice commands and when I received a call it would actually remove power from my unit (I think there was a way to make this not happen but the bluetooth was a deal breaker for me). Which means if I had a anv route I was following and did not know where I was going I'm screwed as well as if my son was watching a movie in the back he was screwed until I was done talking. Then because of the power up time on the 5120, once I hung up the call it was probably a good 30 seconds before the radio would come back on. So after several phone calls with crutchfield and PAC audio. I decided that I did need the OS-4. Once I received all the replacements I realized that originally for the SWI-jack to work I had to tie into the BCM (which sucked) and with the OS-4 it was all taken care of for me. So I unhooked the wiring under the dash and reconnected it behind the deck (much easier!!). Also the OS-4 came with the antenna adapter which I bought separately. Now that I reconnected everything the bluetooth voice recognition works and the stereo does not turn off anymore. It goes into a call mode which is just like switching the source momentarily and the radio comes right back on after the call hangs up. The other thing I had to return was the plastic install kit. Crutchfield was selling the scoshe kit was looked like crap it was like black vs dark gray like the dash. I read some recommendations from this forum and decided to get the metra kit and it is much much better.

Here are a few pics of the install. The green wire is the wire coming from the BCM did I mention that sucked to hook up.

This is a picture of the CM-X chime module. This is needed as you lose the chimes and blinkers without this. I was not happy about this however I would much prefer dealing with this chime intsead of no voice commands on bluetooth.

This is the plug that comes with the OS-4 and plugs right into the SWI-JACK

I used this hole for the tie wrap and locked it in to the back of the dash.

Location I mounted the cm-x module. Since the volume is not that loud I wanted it to point at the driver.

This is a just a quick pic of the truck I added toneu cover, steps, chrome handles, mud flaps, and bug guard. I installed chrome mirrors as well but I have not taken pics yet.

Also forgot to mention I ran the GPS antenna down the drivers side floor board and out by e- brake. I then lifted the windshield wiper cowl and put the antenna under there so it was out of site. It has a clear view of the sky and work perfect.

Nice install, very clean looking!

Just curious, how much did the whole thing cost all together? Do you have factory steering wheel controls that still work or did you just add some? I recently upgraded to a factory GM nav/DVD unit and I spent nearly $1900 including the nav software, with me doing the install myself. The main reason I went with a factory unit was to keep the wheel controls as I couldn't find any easy way to do it with aftermarket, and was also worried about the hassle with chimes and blinkers. The GM unit pretty much just plugged right in, having factory Bose made it easy. So was all that extra work and wiring worth it?

I actually had the deck and sirius from a previous truck but the costs go like this

DNX-5120 deck Ebay $600

PAC OS-4 $200 Crutchfield

SWI-Jack $70 Crutchfield

Install bezel $30 Local dealer

Sirius Interface cable $20 Tss-Radio

Sirius Tuner $$48 Tss-Radio

So in total just under $1000

My factory steering wheel controls work awesome. Thats what the swi-jack does. and with the OS-4 since there both made by PAC the install is cake. The only thing that I had to figure out with the steering wheel controls was in the instructions it says to turn the key to accessory to program. I did this several times and did not realize that it worked when the key was turn to accessory but not while the truck was running. When I called support they told me to re-do my connections as that was most likely the problem. Once I figured it out, I just programmed the unit while the truck was running and it has worked perfect since.

The Chimes and blinkers come through the cm-x module that comes with the OS-4. they sound different than the factory but I got used to it

I have installed several systems so wiring is not a big deal for me. I usually just take the harness into my living room and do it front of the tv. Then bring everything out to the truck and make the last final connections. So I would say it was worth it.

As much as I like my deck, I love how the stock looks and sounds especially with the bose. I always feel the if it's stock you are less likely to get robbed (which has happened to me a couple of times). I just couldn't pull the trigger on $2000 for my stereo. Especially because I did that a few times when I was younger when I was trying to make my ears bleed from the music being so loud!!

I have an 09 Silverado 2500 and I'm installing a pioneer AVIC90B (looks simular to yours) I already purchased a peripheral Gmahl1 which looks very simular to your Pac OS4. Are these guys the same company even the description between the two are the same...

I'm planning on using a amp to power my front speakers from my front out RCA's from my head unit, Would this effect onstar and bluetooth or would it work the same? Not sure if you have yours setup like this or not.

I'm not sure if they are the same but I agree it looks like they are the same. I actually saw a website that said they may substitute the os-4 as it is the same.

I think you have to get your output from the module. So you may have to tie in a separate set of speakers for output.

This is a link to the gmos-lan-01 which is what I had first. it did not work well with the bluetooth but it has a diagram for hooking up with external amplifier.

As much as I like my deck, I love how the stock looks and sounds especially with the bose. I always feel the if it's stock you are less likely to get robbed (which has happened to me a couple of times). I just couldn't pull the trigger on $2000 for my stereo. Especially because I did that a few times when I was younger when I was trying to make my ears bleed from the music being so loud!!

Ha Ha! Yeah, I remember those ear bleedin' days. Man I wished I would have looked into an aftermarket system a little closer, but I guess it's too late now. I'm very happy with the system I have too, but a lot lighter in the wallet than you are!! Thanks for the info!

No I did not. I just used the space behind that back plastic. If you reach underneath there is a big space behind there. If you look at the last picture you will see where I tie wrapped the pac module.

i just ordered the DNX9140 with the PAC OS-4, PAC SWI-JACK, Kenwood KCA-iP301V, the install kit and the antenna adapter that is needed. Also going to try and hook up my BOYO reverse camera, just need to figure out how to run the wire from the licenseplate to the HU
