farmallcub Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Two days before we closed on our house in WV a storm came through and knocked a white pine into the house. My truck was sitting in front of the garage door and although the tree's top broke off and stayed on (or in) the roof, it still got hit with limbs. Only one small scratch through the paint and a couple small ones that can be rubbed out. The biggest problem is the sap. I've tried bug and tar remover and WD40 to no avail. They cut it but have a hard time getting to the base of the sap or the mark it leaves on the clear coat. Any help would be appreciated.
cm5 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 use goo gone and the clay bar at same time. worked once for me but i had light sap drops, not a whole branch full!
Stylous Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 no easy fix it solution here. Clay bar will not produce the results you need.Goo gone or goof off (which works better) is the only way). Take a shop rag and use you finger to work each sap spot off. Afterward clay the whole thing down then follow up with a good sealant and wax. If you had a good coat of wax on there before this happened it will be relatively painless.
2000DV4.8 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I've had decent luck with Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover. And I park under pine trees, so I've dealt with it before.
Bowtie2Sierra Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I have had good luck with a clay bar in the past but you will definitely need to follow that up with some paint cleaner, polish, and then wax. Sorry to hear about your truck...its hard looking at a new truck with tree branches laying on it.
Bostonsfavson Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 In addition to the Goo Gone suggestions, 3M Adhesive Remover works well (it's CC safe). You may also want to try IPA. Whatever you do, the most important thing is to let the product saturate the affected area so you can minimize the amount of rubbing needed to remove it. Otherwise, there's going to be some polishing in your immediate future. Of course, that may not be a bad idea anyways, given the fact that you had a branch on your hood.
