Hi, I'm new to this site, looks like a lot of good info.

I'm going to put a nice exhaust on my 02 sierra sometime this summer. But for right now I was thinking about choping it off after the cat. Is this bad for the motor? Will I lose performance?

I have a Flowmaster 40 series catback and have had no issues from with it. I believe I picked up about 3-5 HP once I added it, and it sure sounds nice.

If you are saying just chop it off with no muffler, the local law enforcement may not like it, as well as your neighbors!

yeah, I mean no muffler, I'm not too worried about neighbors or cops, just wondering if it's bad for the truck?

I would go with a nice muffler if I was you. If you have acess to a welder and kinda know how to use it its not that hard to do it yourself. Welcome to the site!

it will cause a loss of backpressure, but that aint too bad, just lose some low end i believe

Whatever you do, don't cut it just after the catalytic converter underneath the cab. If your going to cut it, cut it underneath the bed and clamp a turndown on it.
