Drum To Disc Conversion Kits Out?

Recommended Posts

Just noticed some of these at 4 wheel parts online http://www.4wheelparts.com/Brakes/Force-10...t_pn=SSBA126-48 Anyone happen to know anything about these, and better yet know of a better distributor? 4WP charges too much for their crap...I was looking around for some upgrades for my fronts and noticed these.

Speaking of which...Anyone have any suggestions on an upgraded front brake system? I don't drive like NASCAR but I do tow quite a lot and often.

Drums are ugly haha, you'd be surprised how many people comment on how nice my truck looks and when they get to the back they notice the drums and give me the "what the?" look.

Why would you want to switch from drums to disc? Everyone knows that drums are far superior to discs. :driving:

This is the single piston that you can use with the stock front brakes...its a little less http://www.ssbrakes.com/commerce/detail/index.cfm?nPID=9123

Not bad...Anyone got any vendor recommendations? I may have to do my front brakes first as my rotors are really warped and I'm losing some brake fluid for some reason...Reservoir is getting down to the "low" mark...

SSBC tends to be a name that comes up more frequently around here for the kit. I wouldnt know personally as my truck has the drums out back too and as of this moment I have no desire to upgrade them. I do wonder though...I have read in times past that when one is doing a conversion to disc for the rear brakes, one has to pull the axle out for some reason (dont quote me on it, it is an impression that I had got from reading something)....perhaps someone would care to comment on this as well?

It to replace the drum backing plate from in-between the axel and the housing. Neat little video here.

One of the things deterring me from just jumping on this project haha, figuring out how to release then reinstall the axles...The 10 bolt rear should be c clip axles right?

I'm thinking I want to do the 3 piston upgrade though, I may do bigger (better) fronts beforehand as that's what I really need, something like 60-70% of braking is done by the front correct?

Yeah, more I think about it, it'd be a lot cheaper and cost effective to just do a good front rotor/pad replacement and a single piston rear...1,200 bucks is better than 3,000...

And I have seen it done before on that ESPN show Gearz (by Stacey David, former Trucks! host) to an old C-10...He had the diff opened up and just removed some pins from the shaft and the axles slid right out.

Ok, a little confused on one point- what's the rotor to minimum wheel size formula or rule of thumb? Looking at a decent front kit of 14" rotor but when I did a search it came up 20" wheels? Considering stock is 13" and minimum is 17" I would think going up would be proportional...Running 18" Z71 aluminum wheels now.

Thought the bare minimum base model had 16" wheels.
