Running Boards - Nerf Bars

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am looking to add running boards or Nerf bars to my 2006 Silverado. I need these for functional capabilities not cosmetic, can someone suggest a decent looking, sturdy and economical set up. I was hoping someone could suggest name and part number, if not at leat a name. I saw these on an auction site, and I like the way the look but I am open to other alternatives.

Thanks.

If you want something that will hold up look at Westin nerf bars. I have a pair on my '00 and they are still the original 9 years later.

Nerf bars are slippery bastards when wet. If you are using them for passengers to step on, the round tube and tiny plastic steps aren't much for surface area. I'd go the route you have posted. A company called Cord makes similar running boards to the ones in your pic..

I am very happy with my dee zee aluminum running boards. 5 years on now and still like new.

I like the running board because it is a great step but also keeps mud etc that is thrown by the front tires from covering the side windows.

Thanks man! I'm not sure if I like it yet. I just had the idea but didn't get to spend as much time working it as I wanted.

I went with the nasta bars for my 09 and they make em for the 06. Easy to install + plus my 9 year old daughter really appreciates them everytime she gets in or out of the truck. There is a black plastic overmold pc for traction which seems to work decent..

I've got the Westin tube step and love it, the plastic step plate they have on it is good. I haven't slipped yet and my daughter at 7 jumps in and out like crazy, hasn't busted her butt yet.

I nearly broke my ankle on mine when they were dirty and wet. But they look good.

I have a set of Putco Boss Bars 4" diameter, and they run the whole length of the cab and including the bed. They have 6 steps total, 3 per side. Last year I got too into cleaning the truck, and I put black magic on the step pads to keep them from drying out. Needless to say my leg slid in between the rocker panel and the step bar, and I fell backwards and just about broke my leg. I have never had step boards so I can't help out there, hopefully you find something that suits your needs.
