Pulling Out A Rotted Stump

Thought some of you guys would get a kick out of these pictures.

This tree was right next to our garage and was clearly dying last year when we moved in (literally a year ago this weekend). First thing we did was cut it down because i didnt want it falling into my garage.

Dug up the stump today after work.... it was half rotted away. Im not exactly sure how long it takes tree stumps to rot like this, but id guess a lot more than 1 year; so im surprised it didnt fall sooner!

**Not really an impressive pull. It took a little bit of gas to break it loose but then it popped right out. I doubt my wifes 2.5L subaru could've pulled it out, but im sure my 01 jeep cherokee 4.0 would've tugged it without much trouble (i miss that jeep... sold it a few months ago).

Can anyone identify the grubs that killed it??

I didnt fill in the hole yet- figure i'll let it dry out before i fill it in. Should i toss some type of bug killer in there? Im not really good with insects so im not sure if those nasty things are a threat to anything else..... mayble i'll toss some kindling in there and have a bonfire on Friday night :D

The grubs shouldn't hurt anything, we have them down here and they tend to get into soft soil or rotten wood. I've never heard of trying to kill all of them, but I'm sure if someone else has heard differently they will no doubt jump in. Felt like a REAL Trucker after pulling that out didn't you. :D

Ugg...too much work. I usually take a 1/4-1/2 inch wood boring bit and drill a ton of holes in it. Then, a year or so later it is so rotten it just crumbles.

Off topic, I want to thank you for posting a link to that TSB where body mount isolators needed to be installed to stop a creek/popping sound. I brought my truck in today and they are ordered the isolators today.

No, thats why i said it wasn't an impressive pull. I used to be BIG into offroading.... i've had much more impressive pulls before

No problem man. I knew quite a few people would be able to make use of that TSB.... that's what these sites are for, to help each other out with that improtant information and troubleshooting :(

So you don't need a supercharged 454 to pull out stumps....

Not when they're rotted to hell like this one was

Just yangin' your chain. I've pulled some of those rotted ones out before and the stump was out before the strap got tight. :(

I'm trying to decide if I should PM a link to this thread to Stumpy. ...nahh we'll let him find it at his own pace.

I think he'll find it Jake, probably still at work.

 i figured as much. I sure didnt post this thread to show off my 6.2L power thats for sure! I was just more amazed at how rotted this stump was considering it was holding up a pretty big tree... and i know absolutely nothing about bugs and insects so i was hoping you guys could give me some insight.

Sounds like those Macro Modes are harmless and just making a nice home out of an already dead tree? I didnt see any termites, which was my first concern.

Grub-x works pretty good for killing grubs. They kill the grass by eating the roots, and killing them keeps the skunks away.

Drilling a few holes in the stump and pouring/putting salt in/down the stump kills them really fast.

Thanks for the heads up Steven.

I have another big stump that was very much alive when we cut the tree down... im definitely going to try the salt trick you mentioned.

i guess he's talking about my camera being out of focus huh jeff?

Yeah salt will kill it. Several plumber also told me basically the same trick when roots start to invade your sewer pipes. Just before you go to bed, or before you go the work (and no one else will be in the house using any plumbing for quite a while) fill your toilet with rock salt. Then flush it so all that salt gets down in your pipes. After sitting in the pipes for a while with no other drainage water flushing it away, it will kill all the roots. I do it at least once or twice a year and had no stopped pipes ever since.

On another note, pouring a few gallons of deisel will kill that stump just as good as the salt, maybe even faster. Only thing is, its not nearly as cheap as the salt is.

    • I found an odor eliminator spray that neutralizes unwanted smells pretty well. Using it with the car's AC running helps to distribute it evenly around the cabin.
    • WTI futures / speculation is just that. WTI futures <> current 4-7% inflation and national average gas price over $4.00/gallon.   The spot price, at delivery, is currently $87-$95/barrel which is why gas prices remain high.   Edit: oH mY gOd mEnTaL BrEaKdoWn In tHE pOsT aBOve mInE. • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
    • Hello, Im in a bit of a bind maybe someone could help me out.  We towed our trailer, up a pretty steep incline (395 north of Bishop) done it before no issues. I got to our campground turn truck off, i restarted the truck about an hour later  and check engine light turns on. Found DTC P2C48,  unable to reset.  This morning i removed the plug, there's 12.12v at the plug. Reservoir near firewall is full of coolant, checked for leaks nothing. I dont hear or feel the pump turning on. My dilemma, is nearest dealer  is 4hrs away that has the pump instock. Is it safe to drive? By me checking the available voltage at the connector and not hearing/feeling pump turn on, is it a bad pump? Please help...
