Adding Tpms To My Truck

Recommended Posts

Posted

So I have an 06 Sierra CC Z71 that I have added a few mods to like DIC, Nav Power folding mirrors, about to add a rear view camera and I am going to be done. However I am havening trouble getting the TMPS system to work correctly.

I have placed all the sensors in the tires, and purchased a different PDM (passenger door module) that had the TPMS system programed. All items were purchased from somone here who added it to their Avalanche and needed a different set up. I was assured that the sensors and the PDM were a match. I plug everything up and the truck seems to recognize the new system, however through several learn attempts the truck keeps flagging a low tire pressure light.

I took it to the dealership and had a friend scan it. The truck calls for 35 psi and that is what I am running in all four tires. However when we hook up the tech II tool to the truck the computer says the tires are at 19 psi, a little more than half the actual pressure. We wen through the menu and found a place to adjust the tire pressure on the tech II tool but nothing that low was available.

That brings me to my main problem. I do not have a screen on the DIC that shows the tire pressures. It just flags the light and says check tire pressure. I asked my friend to call the tech line and ask for a new VIC number for the TPMS but they said it was unavailable for my truck. This is the same guy who got a VIC number for the DIC set up.

So my truck and the Tahoe's etc all have this capability and its available on the same year model as my truck so why not? They share the same systems and parts. I am not sure how to correct this problem other than to remove the TPMS PDM and replace it with the original PDM and abandon the mod.:dunno::dunno:

I have been successful in all other attempted mods so this one puzzles me a bit. I haven't found any helpful info here. Has anyone successfully attempted this mod?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I kinda have the same problem...I just got purchased a new set of 20 factory rims. He said he put the TPMS sensors on the tire. When I took off the factory 17's with the factory TPMS sensors paired up to my truck...after driving 5 miles on the DIC it said "Service Tire Monitor"....So I looked up in the Owners manual how the pair the TPMS with the computer system.

Step one...turn the key to the on position then turn the parking lights on and off 4 times till the horn beeps twice.

Step Two - Start with the front tire and fill or reduce air pressure for 10 sec...then wait 15 sec...the horn will sound and that tire is paired with the computer system...then move onto the pass. side front tire...and follow the same directions...

I got to step one...the horn beeps twice...then i had my friend fill up the tire for 10 secs...then we waited for 15 sec...but the horn never beeped again...so we turned off the truck then started the process over again from the step one...

I have no clue what do to here...helpppp...

It is better if you do it the other way:

Overinflate your tires to 40 PSI and then deflate them for those 10-15 secs until the horn sounds. The truck will rarely realize that the tire pressure is changing at a dramatic rate when airing up the tire, whereas the truck almost always registers a loss of air at a high rate (and it is easier to do). try this and see if the paring sequence can be completed.

try the deflation and let us know what happens.

I tried only deflation one time..but the tire pressure was at 33psi....not 40...I will try that...

I believe that your body control module needs to be reflashed to include all of the DIC functions and then try to recalibrate it. GM does not let go of those VIC numbers very easily. The problem is those VIC numbers are derived off the VIN number and if an incorrect VIN number is used, then the programming tables are all screwed up with the incorrect options. Check to see if the full DIC is unlocked on the BCM and then restart the steps to diagnosing the concern.

To answer your question, I never have attempted this modification but I used to work for GM Corp and that is how we would address a dealership's request for the VIC codes...

I did the DIC upgrade and it has the curb mirror feature and some other features like exterior light options that don't seem to do anything. How do I see if the full DIC is unlocked on the BCM? Is that something I need a Tech II tool for?

Getting ready to kill this mod guys, Please anyone have thoughts or ideas on this? I cannot get the DIC to show the tire pressures for the truck, I may have the wrong sensors in the wheels but I don't want the system if all it will do is show a light if something is off. I want tire pressure read out on the DIC. ANYONE!?!?!?

I'd suggest finding a few different service departments to help you, you won't be hurting your friend's feelings by going somewhere else, but your current dealership just isn't cutting it.

Stick with it, it'll work, just takes the right person to say "ah-ha!".

Keep us informed, I'd be interested in your final thought after you get it working.

I took the truck to a different service department with GMC for the DIC upgrade and they simply would not follow the directions posted here on this site. I took it to a Chevy dealership where my friend works and he was the one that tried it. I get some pretty ****ed up looks when I asked other dealers to add stuff to my truck, 'We cant to that' is all I get from them.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
