Hid Headlights Vs Projectors.. Or Both?

I'm debating on swapping out my stockers on my 05 Sierra for Denali projectors, but the price of the OEM lights really steer me away.

I dont want the cheapy euro projectors either.

I was wondering if its worth just upgrading to an HID kit in the stock headlight housings? (this will be for low-beam)

I've heard of issues where if they aren't in a "projector" fashion with a cut-off line it will just blind on-coming drivers.

Is it worth buying Projector headlights and then putting a HID kit in them? or should i stick with stock housings with HID kit? Any opinions are welcome.

thanks,

Cody

I would use stock housings and add the HIDs. Just remember that it would be best to adjust the headlights down a tad. Normally where your "dim" area is, which is normally in the oncoming vehicle area, is now going to be brighter.

+1

Better bulbs in OEM housings are the best. I've seen post after post on many forums where people buy aftermarket lights and then complain that they can't see at night. Most aftermarket lights are designed to simply "look" good... and even that is debatable!

Ok cool, thanks a lot. That saves me some money then lol...

I may end up taking out the orange reflector though, idk yet. The truck is white, so I'm looking to get a nice clean look, I don't want the orange reflectors being noticable.

I'll try a HID kit then and just ajust them down some.

thanks again,

also, for the foglights I'm reading where HID's will really blind traffic without a projector housing.. I dont really want to have to spend that much on projector fogs and HID's down there. Would a good set of Halogens, like Silverstars for example be a good match if i were to put 6000k or 8000k HIDs in my low beams? I dont really want a mis matched color. I may have to find some halogens with a blue tint if i were to go with 8000k HID's in my low beams i guess...

User daddy also put HIDs in his fogs and said he angled them down slightly too. Personally for me I would purchase the correct color fog lamps, yellow, 3000K. That is if you want to use them as FOG lamps. For more light... any color will do. Also, remember that anything above 5000K to 5500K for HIDs you begin to lose light output. Sylvania does have "cool blue" lights that are tinted blue, if that is what you are going for.

I want the most light output, but i like the blue tint of HID's, like around 8000k. I'm not going to use any higher, either 8000k or lower. maybe 6000k.

I don't want a dull look, like 4300k, but rather yellow or solid white / white with bluish tint. But with the HIDs in the headlights i probably dont need anymore "light output" technically, so i may go the 3000k route

Go to the denali housings. I ran HIDs in my 2005 yukon for a few months and got flashed a lot the were blinding. Then I switched to Denali housings and they are much better. Dont go with cheap ebay denali housings they will have a cheap projector in them.
