Help! 08 Silverado Runs, But That's All!

I installed my Prodigy brake controller the other day, per excellent instructions found here, thank you.

I also added the 40A fuse for trailer power, and decided this morning to check for voltage at the 7pin plug.

Everything was fine with the brake controller for the last few days, but since I added the fuse last night and checked for power this morning (which I never found) things are completely hooped up! Perhaps I shorted something when I was touching contacts back there, not sure.

Anyway, now when I start the truck the message center says "hood open", then "service 4WD", "reset TPMS", and I think that's it. But I have no turn signals, no power windows, sunroof, but I do have horn. yippee. Remote doesn't work, turn the key off, take it out, get out and close door and the radio is still on, along with dash lights.

I glanced over fuses and CBs, but didn't see anything although I didn't pull any out to check other than the 40A I put in last night which I pulled. Called OnStar, they ran a diagnostic, and said my cruise control needed help, but everything else checked out good. Boy, they're a lot of help.

I disconnected the battery for about 10mins., that didn't help either.

Any ideas???? :P

First check that you have around 12 volts on the battery. Electronic things like a fully charged battery. If the battery is low, get a battery charger and charge it.

Then take out one fuse at a time and test it to be sure it is good. Then replace it. Then check the next fuse.

Thanks for the reply.

I checked voltage at the battery, 12.5 volts.

Pulled and checked several fuses, all good.

I really doubt that it's a fuse, though. It would have to be a LOT of fuses to cause all the problems I have. No turn signals, 4 ways, windows, seats, mirrors, cruise, etc.....

I'm just about positive it's computer troubles. I hate to say it, but I think I might have fried one of them, or it just went, because about the only thing it will do is start and drive, and the radio works, along with HVAC.

I guess I'll be driving to the dealership tomorrow. It's obviously under warranty. The question is, will this be covered since I may have caused it......

Sounds like the BCM is going haywire. Everything you listed is related to it and interacts with it. Sounds like it is fried... related to what you did, not sure, could be coincidence. I'd probably skip telling the dealer about what you did. Adding the fuse for the trailer power shouldn't have anything to do with the BCM power. See what the dealer has to say first.

BCM stands for Body Control Module I'm guessing? Sure has things messed up. I notice my brake lights are on except for the right one when the truck is running. Weird.

One thing for sure, if it was my 67 Mustang, I'd be able to figure it out. Luckily it's OK. GF's car is in the body shop so that's all we have left!
