Driving Lights Not Coming On When You Open The Door

I just noticed at work the other day, that when a guy I work with walks over and opens the door to his 2005 1500 Silverado that the running lights and the high center brake light go on. I also noticed another guys 2005 2500 Silverado does the same thing, yet my 2005 Sierra doesn’t do that. Any suggestions as to why? Thanks in advance, Jake.

Brake light goes on, or the white cargo light? Sounds like you just need to turn cargo lighting on (so that when doors open you can see stuff in the bed).

Sorry, yes white cargo light and the running lights. I thought of something. Maybe it has something to do with the automatic starter that I had put in? Thanks for your reply, jake.

Do you have the controls on the steering wheel for the radio and the info center on the dash?

Sorry for the delay, no I don't have the controls on the steering wheel, someone I work with asked the same thing. As far as the DIC, what is that and how do I change it so the lights will come on? "Perimeter Lighting" thank you Scott now I at least no what to call it. Thanks in advance, Jake.

The DIC is the "Driver's Information Center" and opens up some configurable options on your truck via the steering wheel controls. There are a couple of rather large threads around here that explain how to add it to a truck that didn't come with it, but from what I gathered, it's not exactly cheap.

Thanks guys, I read over the owners manual yesterday, I found out about the DIC. The only thing I can change is from English to Spanish and French by holding the trip button reset. It’s hard to believe Chevys with the same package have this and not a GMC. As far as the expensive item you mentioned wingnut can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance, Jake.
