Swap Audio Controls From A Used Steering Wheel To Mine

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I have an 09 Silverado with Cruse but without the audio controls. If I had a steering wheel off a similar vehicle like a Tahoe or Sierra that had the audio buttons, can I transfer them to mine? The reason I ask is I can find wheels with the controls but not in the color/finish that would match mine. Figured I could get one cheap enough and then just do a transfer rather then a full swap.

Thanks

There's a huge thread on this very topic here:

Steering Radio Controls

It should answer your question and then some.

Thats excellent J thanks. And sorry to the forum for not finding it with the search (seems to be hit or miss with that thing).

To answer your question, yes. I bought a wheel on ebay and transferred the wiring harness, audio control pod, and rear shroud from it to my wheel. It worked like a charm and I was able to retain my nice new wheel.

Thanks Kilo.

I ordered one off ebay today actually. Problem is I couldnt find one in the same color so I ordered one in all black. Acutally wouldnt mind black but I dont think it would go all that nice with the dark grey (guess that is what it is) interior in my truck. I was thinking I would try it with the black shroud and see if I can live with it. If not, guess I have to see if I can order it from the stealership if I can even order just that part.

Thanks again to the forum for the help. Still cant get over how easy it is (or looks at this point). Its a bit annoying that car makers still do stupid things like this. I mean come on, they put EVERY in that is needed for the controls to work except the controls themselves to force to shell out a wad of money for a bunch of options you dont want? Sheeshhhh....

Thanks

Ernie
