Afm Again

Those of you that have turned off AFM , are you still glad you did and are you still saying that gas mileage has not really changed? Are there still some people out there that wish it was turned off. I am still on the fence about it, but I hate that 8 to 4 and 4 to 8 chug/surge while cruising. I am thinking either AFM has to go or I will have to go back to stock modules where AFM is smooth but everything else sucks.

I have mine turned off now and it feels a lot smoother now...As for mileage, still on the first tank after the tune and I'm having trouble staying out of WOT haha...

I plan on having Justin turn mine off when he comes back to my place in Sept. If I had a different type of driving environment I may keep it. But there is soooo much stop and go stuff around here that the benefits I get from it are about Zero. Most of my long highway trips are with a trailer when I don't want the AFM anyway.

I don't dislike AFM, but I don't get a lot of benefit from it daily and I don't want it on while towing. Plus, I plan on eventually putting exhaust on my truck and I don't want to worry about the resonance during 4 cylinder mode.

It has helped me on a few long highway trips. I in all honesty have got 21mpg on a 150 mile trip driving 65-70mph. That is not the norm and I'm sure the stars were aligned just right, but I did. My AFM was on a lot during that trip. So it can help, but for me it really doesn't do much for 95% of my driving.

It's been off since I first got my Black Bear tune, I don't miss it at all.

+1

And I have seen exactly ZERO drop in MPGs.

OFF WITH IT!!!

I did a mileage check on/off and didn't see any difference, so it's been off for more than a year now. No issues and glad it's off.

the afm in my old 07 max and my old 08 5.3 never bothered me......in the 09 its really getting on my nerves so I think I may turn it off in october

Thanks for the input guys. I am in the process of discusing all my options with Justin now. He has done a great job on the tune and his customer service is second to none. I just hate that AFM transition. He has told me he can smooth that out but I would have to sacrafice some of the benefits of the tune. So I'm thinking, why not just turn it off, especially since there seems to be almost no loss in MPGs. Was looking for opinions here and got some. Thanks Again.

I REALLY wish we had the option within DIC to just turn if off ourselves.

J man67- on a related topic- I'm sure I missed it on another thread, but what ever happened with your ticking lifter situation? Went away or got replaced?

Get rid of the AFM....You won't regret it!

Its just useless on these trucks.
