4x4 Conversion

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 Silverado, it's a 4X2 but want to know if I can convert it into a 4X4? If so would I need to upgrade the transmission, it has a 4.8 V8 and either a 4L60E or 4L80E.

Would I just be able to weld a front clip from a model that had 4 wheel drive, or is it more difficult than that?

Any thoughts or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Definitely not worth the time, money, and effort just to have a stock 4wd suspension. What do you want to use the truck for?

If it's going to see some serious off road time, I'd just swap a solid front axle in, but if it's just for better winter driving or mild off roading, sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd.

This question has been asked many times, and the answer has always been, sell the 4x2 and buy a 4x4.

Like the other said, it is better, and more cost effective to simply sell the truck, and get yourself a 4x4. The amount of fab work, along with the price of all the parts you need is just too much.

Or buy a junker with a dead motor of the same body type and swap the body onto the 4x4 frame, done.

:smash: waste of money and time and you may have a real hard time selling it.
