Drain and fill plugs?

Thats what they are,The drain and fill plugs.

And when you remove them to change the fluid make sure you put Teflon sealant on them before re-installing them.

thanks alot guys, i figured thats what they are but i didnt know for sure. should i tighten them all the way in? or are they to be backed out a little bit? like do they rattle loose?

Unless you see fluid seeping around the plugs, don't try and crank them all the way in....they are tight and shouldn't work themselves loose.

What kind of undercoating were you applying to a brand new truck? Just curious.

No,They are already tightened all the way in,They are a "tapered" design, they can't go in anymore.

They won't rattle loose.

Well i hope i dont piss any environmentalists off, but my granfather told me the best undercoating you can have for a truck is some motor oil and a nice dry dirty road. the oil collects the dirt and doesnt let the salt stick to the underside of the truck. he has a 98 silverado with no rust. here is pennsylvania that is hard to do.

thanks for the help with the bolts guys, its greatly apprieciated.

A few of my co-workers get their trucks done with the oil rustproofing. They get them sprayed every year.

I am from the Buffalo, NY area...so I know what salt can do to vehicles.

yeah we spray our trucks about 4 times a year to get a nice coat before winter. this is my first new truck so im going to test my grandfathers theory on rust prevention and see how it holds up 10 or 15 years from now.

I would pull those plugs now and put the teflon on. You will be thanking yourself when it comes time to change the fluid. If you are careful and neat, you could put the fluid right back in if it's low mileage.

No need to,They already have teflon sealant on them from the factory,I only mentioned it for when he changes the fluid to put teflon back on them.
