Chinese Made Tires Harder To Come By

LOL, this will send Wal-Mart a reeling in their tire departments....That is all they keep is China rubber.

Which begs the question, with the low quality of their tires, would you use a China made rubber?

That's good information to know, I'll have to watch and make sure any I buy are stamped USA.

It's so good to see the government doing something to help American business even if it may cost the consumer in the short term. I hope the American companies do not use this as a reason to raise prices as the article suggests. We need jobs and skills at home and this is a step in the right direction. As others have stated you can't always tell your buying U.S. made goods by looking at the brand name of the product. Gotta find that label and read it before buying.

Why would anyone want Chinese made tires? Everything else they make is subpar, something like tires would be something I'd never want made in china.

Funny story about imported tires.

A buddy of mine bought a Kia a few years back...something to beat around in and not spend too much. He was new in the military and didn't have a whole lot of cash. So he buys this Kia...with its share of problems...brand new by the way. It came with these skinny little tires on 13" wheels. They have a wonderful warranty BTW. Everything is covered including the tires. So he was out driving around one day and the side wall just exploded on the inside of the tire...he thought he hit something, but he looked everywhere and found nothing that he could have possibly hit. So he jacked it up, popped on the doughnut spare...which for this car was like a full sized spare, threw the bad one in the trunk and went off to the dealership. Sure enough, it was covered under warranty, so the parts guy ordered him a new tire. so after about 2 weeks of driving on the spare, and taking back roads as its rated for nothing over 60km/h, he decides to call and see what is taking so long with the new tire. They guy says..well sir, from the looks of the order, it went on the boat yesterday. On the Boat? he says. Yes sir, all our tires are ordered from the main factory in Korea...says the parts guy. OK...whatever says my buddy, maybe they're a special size that we cant get in Canada...and he didn't have enough interest in the little POS to even take a look at the sidewall. So...finally, 6 weeks after the order was made, the tire comes in. So he drives down to the dealership to get it popped back on. So he pops his head in the garage to chat to the mechanic putting the tire on. So, he says, whats so special about these tires that they have to come from Korea. Oh, the mechanic says...that's just where we get the tires for all the Kia's. So my buddy kinda gets a little weirded out and asks...so you mean to tell me I have to buy tires from Korea every time I need new ones.

OH DEAR GOD NO...the mechanic yells...I WOULD NEVER PUT THESE TIRES ON ANYTHING I DROVE....NOT EVEN MY WHEELBARROW. Thye're just 155/60/13... you can get them anywhere.

Good! says my buddy...why don't you go anywhere and get me some tires that I feel safe driving on than? An hour of yelling at and 2 min of holding the parts manager off the ground by the shirt collar...my buddy is a Big boy BTW...he got 4 new tires for the car, Goodyear, too.

When I can find an American-made tire that isn't crap. then I'll buy it. Chinese tires are crap too. Now for Korean and Japanese tires thumbs up for them knowing how to build quality tires. When American companies understand and manufacture quality that's when the business will come back to them, but at this point I suspect that will be years away. Doesn't mean I'm not patriotic, rather it means that I work hard for my money, and want it to work hard for me.

I suspect your post will be unpopular but I do understand what you mean. A product is not superior because it is manufactured in the U.S.. But, the contrary is true also. Some people automatically assume that a product made in Japan is better with no real proof of that. It's kind of like the Toyota folks. They drop to their knees and begin to sob while they worship anything with the Toyota symbol on the grill. Now this company does make some good vehicles but they have problems as well just like any body's. Just take a look at a Tundra forum and you will see what I mean. There are folks who will buy a GMC and have nothing but problems and blame the American auto industry and folks who will buy one and never have an issue. It has less to do with the product at hand and more to do with peoples perceptions, luck, and the fact they are more likely to share negative experiences than positive. I still look for the made in the USA label because I think it's the right thing to do. Doesn'T mean everything I buy will be made here though. I like value and quality just like the next guy.
