Has anyone had their dealer apply the fix (remove headliner and re-brace) and it actually fix the problem? Parts are ordered for mine and will come in next week. I just don't want them tearing my vehicle up if it's not going to correct the problem.

Billyjack - info trail from this thread; the dealer will start by taking down your headliner followed with securing beams (brace) if necessary. GM sends out a field engineer and the driveshaft is changed out with your shocks, tires and wheels soon to follow. After your truck has been reconfigured with the dealer having your truck longer than you, GM may allow you to get out of the deal with a loss. If you are fortunate enough to get out of the deal, your truck is sold to the next fella and the thread repeats itself.

 

To answer your question".........apply the fix and it actually fixed the problem". As long as dealers keep replacing parts that are not defective or recalled, the issue will continue. Nine months ago, sssqueue made a comment similar to yours.

This could be very interesting! Here is a post from over on the pickup thread, whee they are having vibration issues.

 

"Update just got back from dealer. Look at the bearings in rear diff..yes they are too small for it, so when pressed on they spread out. Looks like this may become a recall ...just so that everyone knows they have been working on a fix...it looks like it might soon be here. Waiting on simms as new gear set is bigger. Should get back truck on tuesday. It looks like a bad batch of bearings that where too small. I hope that this fixes my shakes."

 

My Yukon has some of the same vibration issues. But it is of course masked by the noise irritation! It is a string possibility that the source of the booming is he rear differential. After all, the source is mechanically induced boom, from my testing and analysis. And, differential issues have been seen to cause booming many times in the past in the industry. So, this bearing thing is a prime suspect, in my mind.

As far as I recall, no one has reported that the TSB that re-attaches the roof skin to the struts has corrected the noise issues. Not one time. However, I'm sure GM will insist it be done before doing any other trouble shooting.

 

That said, I don't recall anyone reporting any subsequent issue with the vehicle as a result of taking the headliner down. So, it's not a bad thing to have the roof properly attached, regardless of its impact on the noise problem!

 

You will likely have to let them run their course!

It is a mystery as to why GM still has that TSB active. Their rate of success following that method to-date has been zip.

We are on our 2nd 2015 GM SUV. NOTHING has stopped the booming/ rumbling sound problem. Our current 2015.5 Escalade has had the TSB for the headliner, the latest Updated shocks, updated transmission and it's still as bad as ever.

I think it's pretty clear GM does not know how to correct this issue!

 

Here's a list of items that has been replaced on our Escalade.

 

Transmission.

Roof TSB

New exhaust system for the Chirp (still doing it)

New updated shocks.

nav antena

Drivers seat TSB ( still moving)

New 360 degree cameras and software.

 

Completely embarrassing this is what $85,000.00 gets you these days.

I think GM needs to have a chat with the lads at Rolls Royce. There are complaints from chirps, to squeaks, to rattles, to diodes humming a tune ... What GM engineers failed to understand is that as you lower the noise floor in a vehicle, you will now hear stuff nobody had a clue ever existed.

Doesn't matter how much noise is in the cabin. With the issue being discussed in this thread, this issue is also around pressurization. I believe that's why they are focused on roof bracing and flex. This isn't a simple rattle, chirp or squeek. I'm a long time Jeep owner. I'm used to those.

I am very much aware of that, although it is not about pressurization; but rather pulsing (or buffeting). Simple pressurization is Ok ... as in commercial jet aircraft. Related concerns have been mentioned with respect to other 'noise' matters.

I have owned 3 2015 Yukon Denalis. One an early production model and two 'interim' models. None had this issue. I have not found a vehicle known to have the problem I could test and measure. That is not to say the problem does not exist ... it most certainly must; however, I suspect it is in part the vehicle's engineering and in part individual sensitivity to the intensity and frequency(ies) involved.

Update on my 2015 Suburban LTZ.

 

First time I've posted in a while. The dealer has had my car for over a month. They have tried new shocks, and the roof TSB. (Just part of the process unfortunately).

 

Our vehicle has had 3 major problems. Pressure in your ears, a bad vibration from the rear of the vehicle when driving on rough roads, and a vibration when the vehicle transitions from V8 to V4....which it does way too often if you ask me. There is clearly a software issue on this last one.

 

I have contacted the area Manager of Aftersales. This appears to be one of few people I have dealt with that has a clue. The Dealers have NONE.

 

We appear to be making some progress. Our State Lemon Law, which is essentially where we are at, says they have to replace, or refund. Since we'll only accept a Suburban, Escalade, and Yukon XL, it appears that we are headed for a refund....since every vehicle I have test driven has these issues (2 GMC Yukon XL's, 2 Suburbans, 1 Escalade).

 

Know what to look for folks. If you take a quick test drive, you might not notice it. Once you drive it for 500 miles, you can't wait to get out of it!

 

My advice; stay on them. Call, call, call some more. Email everyone you can. Send letters. Be firm, and do not be afraid to contact an attorney.

Just came back from a trip to VA. I've rented several Tahoe's and Suburbans over the past few months.This time, 2015 Suburban LT wtih 9,800 miles, Arlington build. No issues with hard shifts or rough idle. Was very smooth and also did not have the pressure or buffering issue. If it did, it was barely noticeable.

Anyone located in the Southeast with this issue? I see well over a dozen of these GM vehicles on the road each day. They all can't have this problem...

I am in the South East (South Ga) as well and I do have the issue. I have the standard length Yukon SLT and just got it back from having the roof TSB done and it has helped with the buffeting, albeit very little.

 

I will say, mine does not seem to be as bad as the others, but it is there......hopefully a real fix will be available soon.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
