Loud Or Not So Loud, That Is The Question

Ok ppl, I have out grown my youth and am looking for new exhaust. My last truck had dual and some noise, now my newer one I can hear a Fly fart, kinda nice. I have the 02' GMC 2500 HD with the 8.1 and the Alley. I am looking for somthing that might help with my MPG and over all driving, rather not have something loud again, unless I get on it might be ok.

Have any of you had this truck and put something on?, I did end up installing a cold air and a tbs and upgraded my spark plugs and wires, I will also get a Black Bear tune when he gets close and upgrade my MAF

I have a gibson and think it's to loud.....that said I'll trade my gibson for your stock exhaust.

i have an 01 8.1 and just had the stock muffler cut out and replaced with one of flowmasters dual in single out big block mufflers. it has a nice low rumble to it and you can here it a bit when you get on it but when cruising you can barley hear it in the cab, not muc h louder than stock in the cab.

My 02 is finally on it's way north and I can't wait to drive it. Has the 8.1 and 6spd. I'd like to get some exhaust on it that has a crisp powerful note to it but not full on redneck straightpipe loud. Wish I could have waved down one truck that went by my work last week, boy did it sound great.

Local muffler shop "spliced" a magnaflow muffler into stock exhaust piping. Wide open throttle lets everyone know it is a big block. Accelerate up to 3,500 rpm then let off the gas and when the rpm fall back to idle you hear the backpressure relief (bu blub blub), another sure sign of a big block. At idle or nomal acceleration it is louder than the replaced stock muffler, but not too loud or objectionable. A nice low throaty rumble. I like it!

I have a 2001 2500HD with the 496 C.I.D. V8 and the Allison transmission.

That 8.1 is going to be quite loud with most exhaust systems. Not to mention crazy amounts of drone. Magnaflow would be the way to go unless Corsa makes one for that truck. Just get the longest Magnaflow you can find and plan on possibly throwing in a resonator if it's still too loud or what will most likely be the issue, just lots of drone at highway speeds.

I have a Magnaflow on my 8.1 Yukon XL, with headers. I love it, but I've had folks in the back who say they can't hear ppl in the front talk. You get on it, and it sounds great. Looks stock, but doesn't sound that way. I will say that the headers added to the 'noise'. Stock was just too darned quiet for me, and there wasn't a way to get true duals out the back of mine. The neighbors and my dog know when I'm coming home. There is nothing quite like lots of cubic inches.

It's a great engine/muffler combo, IMHO.

Since this is up again I will add my update too.

Turned out my truck was full dualed straight pipes and was rank as a bull in a bees nest. Put on a Magnaflow 3" dual in/out and it helped but it is still too loud. In 6th gear at 65mph it is doing 3000RPM. Like mentioned above, our kids can't hear what we are saying in the front of the cab. Women and children run for cover on the sidewalk and the little boys who pull up by me looking to drag at the light wet their pants as soon as I rev it up and let the clutch out.

Okay, I made the last bit up except the boys in their little trucks..... I do wish it was quieter though. 15 years ago it would have been cool but I prefer stealth mode. And where the heck did my OD gear go!? lol

I still haven't done a long run for hwy mileage but it is around 12 in town, better than my 6.0L 01!

I have an 01 EC/LB 8.1/ Alley im getting 10 around town and 14 hwy if im behaving.lol

But i am also in a quest for a cat back exhaust, i had a 94 k1500 with a 50 series flowmaster single in dual out with a 3.5 inch high flow cat and that thing sounded great. it wasnt too loud and the highway drone was minimal but im not so sure how that would sound with the 8.1. Can anyone elaborate on that as i want it sounding great with out being obnoxious
