New '09 Silverado Owner In East Texas

Hola, amigos! Just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. In my driving years I've owned several GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, and Infiniti models. My first truck was a new 1996 Ranger. My next truck was a new 2007 Honda Ridgeline that I really, really liked. I know there are a lot of bashers out there, but I'm a pretty open-minded individual with knowledge of facts and respect for opinions. About a year ago I decided I wanted a fast, near-luxury car, so I traded the Ridgeline for an Infiniti G35. It didn't take long to realize I no longer had a truck to haul stuff around in! I ended up buying a 145K-mile, '99 Mazda B2500 from a co-worker. It served its purpose well as a daily driver and hauler, but I decided I wanted something newer. I found an '08 regular cab Silverado work truck with only 4K miles at a local dealer. I was disappointed to see a poorly hacked trailer wiring job and dents and scuff marks all around. Somebody really abused that poor thing. After listening to my salesperson's babble and reading advertisements, I realized that "Government Motors" was practically giving away new trucks. My dealer was offering 12K off of 35K MSRP 4X4 Z71's before negotiating. I didn't have a need for 4WD, so I found a 2WD that caught my eye instead. At the end of the day, I drove off the lot in a new, well-equipped Silverado for little more than a used work truck.

I have the B2500 up for sale. I'm keeping the G35 for road trips and driving pleasure. The Silverado will carry me to work and haul stuff for projects. I'm not big into mods or accessories, but I did tint the front windows this morning and will add a spray-on bedliner and 2-way remote start in the near future. I like to keep things stock and CLEAN.

Welcome! Nice truck. I just don't like to hear people call GM "government motors". Pisses me off. :smash:

Thanks to all for the welcome. I understand about the name pun - no offense meant whatsoever. Growing up, my father was generally a Ford person and my grandfather (a mechanic) was generally a GM person. Like I said, I've owned a lot of different makes and models through the years and try to keep neutral about it. I always leaned toward GM myself before switching to "imports" several years ago. Nothing I ever owned by any manufacturer was junk or a lemon, but I must admit the two Hondas I owned were the only vehicles I've ever owned that never had a single warranty repair. I usually buy something new every year or two, but the vehicle I kept the longest was a new '99 Buick Regal. It had its fair share of warranty repairs for stupid things, but never left me completely stranded. At 75K I had to replace the plastic intake manifold due to a coolant leak, but when I finally traded it in with 100,000 miles it was just as solid, clean, and comfortable as the day I bought it. The things that did go wrong were annoyances like fog light switches, fuel level sending units, dim climate control display, etc.

I'm not emotionally or financially bound to any particular brand - I just buy what satisfies my needs and desires at that time. This go-round, a Chevrolet fit the ticket. Could have just as easily been a Ford, a Titan, or a Ridgeline had they had a comparable enough deal (just as long as it's not a Dodge, haha!).
