2006 Gmc Why Is Trailer Hitch So Low?

SO I just bought a used 2006 gmc quad cab with 5.3L and I hooked my boat up and noticed it was really low to the ground. It has the trailer hitch and I even have a 2 inch drop on the reciever which is flipped upside down to give a two inch raise. Still with this when I hook the boat up it is about 10 inches from the ground. And its a 17 foot light light boat. What is goin on?? Is there a problem with my truck. Its so bad that the trailer keeps bottoming out on every little steep driveway or boat ramp or curb I drive over. This was never a problem for my last truck. Is this common or is something wrong?? Also I had the check engine light come on and the code was p0449 evaporation leak detected. I found and removed the purge solenoid and it was full of dirt and dust so I cleaned it real good and reinstalled it. The engine light came back on, then it went off, then back on. So I bought the replacement and guess what?? The light went off!!! Can u believe it. SO should I wait for the light to come back on to replace the purge solenoid or should I replace it for good measure?? I was thinking about not replacing the part and waiting for the light to come back. That way I'll know if I fixed it when I put in the new part and the light goes away. Thanks.

is your truck a Z71/4x4?

is the rear possibly dropped by shackles?

Does the truck sit level when unloaded? If so I suspect that the rear has been dropped with shackles to level the truck.

The top of my reciever is 15" from the ground. But when I hook the boat up it goes even lower. Im not sure if it has been lowered in the back or not, but sounds like it has. I hate to waste more money on a new receiver, but I may have to. Im goin to check and see how low it is when I hook the boat up and take pictures, but gosh it gets really low.

You dont need a new receiver just the hitch adapter with an offset to add 3 +" to get you where your trailer is level.

Receivers are Raise/Lower.... So flip the ball over in the receiver and see if that level's out the trailer.... If not go get a taller receiver. I keep mine flipped on 2 1/4 raise... Edgewise, I drag the trailer jack when loaded.

Mine is all stock, 4x4 crew cab

I had to use a 3" rise insert to get my boat trailer level.

The hitch itself sits about 1 1/2" lower than it needs to be from the factory, but I haven't spent the money to get an aftermarket one that sits higher yet.

How much weight is on the tongue of the trailer? I had this problem with a 3 axle trailer that I bought to carry my Chris Craft several years ago and had to shift the boat back on the trailer to get to the correct tongue weight for the truck.
