  5. A follow up to this thread, for future use. Maybe this will help others. Even after all the above, I was still getting "Evap Large Leak." Whatever that code is, I think it is posted previously. Anywho, the code would come and go and it did pass the emissions check in October 2022. I don't know how. In any event, I knew I was going to have to tear into it and find the leak. Fast forward to this Sunday 4/16. I had worked my arse off pressure washing Saturday and Sunday, then I had to go to a friend's house. I decided to drive the Sierra because my legs were aching and I didn't want to have to push a clutch. During the drive there I noticed a bit of a film on the rear window. While I had the pressure washer out on the driveway, I pressure washed the bed of this truck and my Ram's. So I knew the rear window should be clean. Upon cranking to come home, I got out and looked under the truck and it was spewing like a geyser and making a huge puddle on my friend's driveway. I jumped back in to move it off his driveway and decided to head home. It was spewing so much it was atomizing and blowing vertically up between the bed and cab. That's when I knew what was on the rear window. Gas. At first it looked like smoke coming up between the cab and bed, but then I realized it's just gas vaporizing and airflow is blowing it up. I just got it home as safely as I could and it's been parked. Tuesday night I tilted the bed for the 3rd time. Turned it to ON and it blew like a geyser. It's the fuel feed line. Last night I was looking it all over again, not knowing a lot about what I'm looking at. It turns out I believe a huge section of the 3-way emissions line (the rear most over the tank) is just plain missing. That accounts for the "Evap Large Leak." Tonight I got a couple buddies coming over and between those 2 guys and my son, we're going to set the bed off. It's just too hard to get in there to the hoses to pull them off, and route new ones with the bed in place. I'm just going to go ahead and replace all 3 lines. Feed line (busted), emissions line (busted), and the return line. The return line is OK. But sure as the world, it will crack and bust a month after putting the bed back on. That line is only ~$47, so while I have the bed off, I'm going to replace it as well. I'll get some pictures, and try to remember to come back in here and post the results. Is there anything else I should do while the bed is off? 7milesout

  6. Yes it is possible to tune an 8L90. You have to send the Transmission Control Module to HP Tuners to be physically modified. Then you need extra credits to tune the TCM. I have found several places that will build an 8L90 to take 1,000 Horse power. My stock 2017 6.2/8l90 was not sluggish. But maybe you should get a ZO6? That being said, I sent my 2017 to Hennessey Performance. It's way more fun. After 2 years I have not hurt the 8L90 yet with 650HP and 658 ft/lbs torque.

  7. Odd although i as look at my dash in my 22. I noticed the speaker covers are doing the same thing.

  8. My first was a plastic device that stuck on top of my dash. My coffee cup would clip to it by sliding in. You raise the back and pull out. At that time period my cold drink was Diet Coke. I had a six pack cooler that sat on the floor behind my feet.

  9. My son worked at the family business one year as an apprentice. He hated it. My daughter worked as a secretary, same results. After graduating my son started selling timeshare. His first year he was making triple my salary, driving an Escalade. He did that for 15 years. Now he sells solar panels for homes. His wife is a realtor. When he bought his last house I went to visit. He was sitting on the sofa. I heard a noise in the back of the house. OH that’s my wife assembling bunk beds. She likes to do that. I went back there. She assembled everything. He helped when needed. She said he just gets in the way. I learned early on any ideas you may have about what’s normal. Kids will introduce you to what their idea of normal is. Every idea is covered in my extended family all you can do is look on in astonishment. And learn to bite your tongue. Big family gatherings are very interesting and usually at my house. The college grads are the most interesting are the least educated. They live in a fantasy world.

  10. Out of six, my oldest son and my youngest daughter will tackle routine maintenance work. And while she can, she doesn't as a rule. She lets hubby do it. At least they all drive. Some kids have even given up on that. But yea, Starbucks is a priority.

  11. Most of us here are enthusiasts. We pay attention to our rides. The other vehicle owners don’t have a clue. All the dealerships I use check everything that has to do with vehicle maintenance. The printout they provide gives a checklist of maintenance that is upcoming including the tires. As far a useless maintenance like maybe changing the air filter a little earlier. It’s nice for the uniformed or people who don’t have a clue. The brakes are getting close or a timing belt change is getting ready to be due. I tell my kids and grandkids get to know your vehicle read the maintenance manual and use the dealership. Form a relationship. My kids grew up around me building, drag racing and owning classes cars. Their mother driving performance cars as daily drivers. They have no interest in doing anything mechanical. They don’t even mow their own lawns. They are all Starbucks coffee buyer. I don’t know who raised them, I thought it was me. My son’s first car was a Z-28, he never opened the hood. It had a killer radio though. He could drive anything now. He drives an impala.

  12. Sensors are a driving aid, not to be fully relied upon. Wait until auto braking puts the brakes on hard for the invisible man like I've had happen in my '20 Traverse HC. Now turned off after that incident and off in my Silverado.

  13. I 2nd grumpy. I'd do a drain & fill using Dexron 6. As Cam said, the other transmission fluid was for 8 speed. Also a good time to change transfer case oil if u have a 4x4 and also both differentials,IMO. I also had a bottle of Lubegard to Trans to slicken seals up. Again, just my choice. Oh yeah, u might want to do the 'pill flip' to keep transmission fluid cooler.

  14. Oil changes are the number one maintenance service and lead to 56 percent of repair opportunities for the dealer. Statistic I read in an industry publication.

  15. You all do know since my good buddy @Pryme...well that is debatable right now...brought up the whole using my boroscope for a colonoscopy and you alls comments haven't quelled my fear of having this done right? You all are not helping at all...just so you know...but I do appreciate a laugh at my colon apparently....bastards....LMAO....you all rock....thanks for keeping things light and not so crappy...lol...

  16. LOL First world problems! What did everyone do before the 90s? My 85 Camaro IROC has ZERO cupholders. That's what passengers or between your legs was for!

  17. I got a flyer from my dealer and they want $99.95 for a lube, oil and filter. Lube what? There's no grease fittings on vehicles anymore. It doesn't apply to diesel engines and up to 8 quarts of ACDelco dexos1 oil. Doesn't say tire rotation is included either.

  18. Auto setting and the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup makes the truck handle very well. Use auto in the rain 100% of the time and in the dry if I am smashing bumps in turns, on&off ramps etc. It is fun.

  19. When they sit a few hours sometimes, they get a bit of air in the valve body. Bump the 1-2 change then fine after that. End plugs on the shuttles don't always seal really well. Having said that, if you haven't changed fluid by 67K you're overdue.

  20. The fluid stuff is for a 8 speeds, not a 6 speeds. Only use Dexron6 fluids for the 6 speed. If you have access to a nicer scan tool I would do a reset/relearn of the transmission adapts and see how it performs after that.

  21. Just received my 2024 2500hd after trading in my 2021 GMC Sierra 2500hd. Boys and girls, I cannot emphasize this enough. THE 10 SPEED IS GOD-LIKE. Literally the best truck I've driven. Gearing is perfect and I cannot believe how much more efficient this truck is over my 6L90 - and I loved that truck. Complete game changer!!! Dashboard is also a massive plus. Truck feels like a car inside to me.

  22. Had open heart surgery in 2021 and a lung surgery(thoracotomy) in 2003, but I crapped in the box last year instead of doing the colonoscopy. Thankfully it came back clear. I have a cheap teslong borescope, it works ok for inspecting barrels, hadn't really thought about using it in a manifold, but sure it would work.

  23. Many dealers sell oil changes as a "loss leader". This is because they "inspect" the vehicle to find more work. Getting you to buy that more work generates their profit.

  25. Yeah as mentioned, the HEMIs have the exact same problems. Your alternatives are all TT V6's which have a whole new slate of issues. Bottom line is this - there is no "safe" truck. Find the truck you like the best and keep it under warranty.

  26. I'm finally remembering to hit the off button in my '23. At least it has it. I've got the Range eliminator plug in unit in my '20 Traverse. Killed the AS in my '15 Malibu with a Trifecta tune. Totally useless function that increases wear and vehicle complexity IMO. Want to save fuel? Drive less and get the junk out of the ''trunk''.

  31. Thought I'd share something I have been working on. I made a CAD model to 3D print that is a spin off of the Z71 door emblem on the Midnight edition 15-18. I wanted an OEM+ style. I used the GMC Sonoma ZRX as a starting point then designed the rest to look like something GM would have put out so If you look at it it almost appears stock unless you really know. I am getting them made now I will post pics when they arrive!

  32. I've replaced lifters and cams on these with miles as low as 50k and as high as 160k. A few months back I had 2 6.2's in the shop at the same time for lifters and cam, one had ~75,000 miles and the other was pushing 120k. The funny thing is that on both of these neither had a failure on an AFM cylinder. I had a 5.7 Ram in the other day with 48,000 miles that need lifters and cam.

  34. I got my fender trim painted! I am thrilled with how it came out! Here is what I used The white matches perfectly, I actually read on this forum someone posted about it. I sanded down the texture with a da and made sure to use adhesion promoter so it doesn't peel. Before I put them back on I toot he opportunity to Fluid Film all the holes in the box I am so happy with how they came out!

  40. You're missing the point. ICE engines were not designed to work like this. It's not a golf cart. The constant stalling and restarting of the engine causes unnecessary wear on the drivetrain, not to mention its a huge safety issue. There have been several instances when I was trying to cross a busy street and almost got hit because the instant power was not available that would have been had the truck not stalled itself. This "feature" is simply an example of people who do not design cars (politicians) being allowed to impose baseless mandates for purely political reasons.

  41. When we went to lift the bed, I had forgot to remove the attachment of the fuel filler neck. The ground strap got pulled apart, but the neck was OK, as we set it back down momentarily, I detached the neck and we lifted it again. Yesterday I soldered the ground strap back together and the put Permatex #3, Aviation on the nipple and slid the hose fitting back on the solenoid nipple. And called it a night as it was threatening to rain (never did). Giving that Permatex 24 hours to cure. If this works, I'm going to start slathering that Permatex on everything. I'll set the bed back down tonight, then drive the truck tomorrow and over this weekend. I've got a BT OBD-II reader so I'll be able to know quickly if that Permatex did the trick. It's just a shame to have to deal with such issues. The truck rides like a tank, it must be the Z85 (High Payload Firm Ride), but other than the tank ride, the truck is really nice. The 4.8L is a better than decent engine, smooth, good low rpm performance. And the truck is a completely clean cream puff, zero rust, drives straight, no vibration. Once I get this straight, wow, what a nice truck.

  42. I'd have a shop that has a plastic fuel line kit repair the hose or at least put a new fitting on. Permatex won't hold compared to a proper fix.

  43. I wanted to go ahead and follow up here. Lifting the bed was easy. It took me no effort at all. I let 2 of my sons do it! Then I placed the jack stands under there. Had to lift it way up because the bottom edge of the bed was cutting me in the back. In the end, it got lifted higher than the picture below. And the blankets I placed as shown stopped any scratching of one part to any other. The stink of this whole effort was that, I think the connector wires had just broke off. I don't think the solenoid failed. But since I already bought a new solenoid, I replaced it. Spliced in some new wiring, and put it back together. After I cranked it up, I got a bit miffed that it didn't immediately turn off the CEL. I left it idling and went in got cleaned up and put on some non car work clothes. When I came back I looked in the cab at the CEL before I opened the door. Just as I was looking at it, the light went off and I swear I bleeve I heard a tiny solenoid sound right at the spot I just put the new solenoid in. So all is well now. I got happier when the light went off. P.S. - I don't care that y'all can see my license plate, everybody on the road can too ... no big deal.
