Seat Bolts

Trying to put a new seat frame in my 04, got the new frame (some of the wire support snapped on my current one during drive from Phoenix to DC). Does anybody know what tool is used to get the bolts off that hold the seat down? Or what the bolts are called? It's like some star shaped thing.

much obliged. Apparently a coupe of 12 point sockets will work on them also.

 

 

what sizes? I may need to run with one deep socket for the front passenger side bolt (nearest the passenger door in the front of the seat since my E20 socket does not quite reach)

Looks like a deep socket will indeed be required for the front bolt. 11mm and 15mm according to 05quadrasteer (I think the 15 is for the front).

I have a special socket from Mac Tools for the nuts at the front of the seat rails. I remember trying e torx, 12 point, 6 point, etc., and nothing worked. I asked the Mac guy and he told me about this socket. Sure has come in handy over the past few years.

Did it work for the front passenger side bolt that looks like it will need a deep socket? Reason I ask is because I took off the seats prior and they didnt seem as hard. I know that the dealership removed the passenger seat due to them replacing the passenger airbag sensor under the seat...I guess they overtorqued the bolts.

I had my seat out today to replace that frame/spring assembly (thank god I have manual seats, removing all those little motors would have been hell). Didn't take me too terribly long. I used a six point 15mm deep socket on the front nuts and a six point 11 mm deep on the rear bolts. Those sockets worked fine. As an aside, this frame/spring unit (88943143) is like 115.00 (including shipping) on gmpartsdirect.com My local dealer (I needed this pronto) told me 180.00. I told him "that's high as a kite, I'm not paying that" Then he said, "well, we're giving it to the shops for $135.00" I said "fine, that's a little better." Still more expensive than GMPD, but gosh, that extra $45.00 would have been total gravy for those guys (because it's not like at even 135.00 they're selling it anywhere near cost).

It works on all four nuts which hold down the front of the seat tracks.

I hope it's not too late to reply to this topic. I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, and the manual seat adjuster (forward and backward) is broken. The handle just "flops" up and down. I'm having trouble getting the seat out. I used a 15 mm deep 6 pt socket OK on the front two bolts, but the back ones have me a little baffled. The inboard one is easily visible, but I can't even get my 1/4" drive and 11 mm socket squarely on it. The head of the ratchet is preventing it. Am I missing something?

 

The outboard one I don't even see. I have managed to get the seat all the way forward, but still don't see it. Advice?

 

What are the wires under the seat for? I don't have seat heaters (at least that I'm aware of). They seem to connect to something that is attached to some sort of plate that runs front to back along the inboard side of the seat track. It looks like some kind of sensor or ??? I bought the truck used, so I may not be aware of some features on it.

You'll have plugs for the seat belt buckle and for the seat position sensor. It sounds like you're using the wrong type of sockets to remove the bolts. You'll want to get the inverted torx or whatever they're called for installation so you can be sure they're tight.

Thanks for the reply and info about the electrical connectors. I know about the inverted torx nuts on the seat bolts, but I've read on several other forums that you can use a 15 mm deep socket on the front ones (and I did) and use an 11 mm deep socket on the rear bolts. My problem was locating the rear outboard bolt. I think I found it from some pics on another forum, but haven't had time to go try it yet. Thanks again for the response.

    • Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.
    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
