Anyone have one of these?

I have ran across a decent buy on one of these trucks, it is an extended cab 4x4 with the 6.0 MAX pkg. Only 28K on the clock. It has 410 locking rear gears, loaded with all the goodies.

My ??? is I have never had a 1/2 ton GMT 800 or 900 with anything other then the 5.3L. I have also never been super impresed with the 5.3s I have owned and one that I still own today, when it has come to pulling a trailers, even lite ones seem to be more of a struggle than I would really like it to be. How does the 6.0 perform and what sort of mileage diffference should I expect to see coparing say a ext cab 4x4 5.3 with 410s vs a 4x4 ext cab 6.0 with 410s?

I have an 2007 Vortec Max with 6.0L and 3.73 gears and it is an awesome combination. The 6 liter is an awesome engine, after owning a 6.0 I would never buy a 5.3L again. I had a 5.3L with 3.73 gears also it was pretty powerful, but it wasn't as powerful as my 6.0. Take out the 6.0l on a test drive and drive it around, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. In MPG comparison from my 5.3L and my 6.0L, I only get one mpg less than my 5.3L. I've towed a Trans Am GTA with my Vortec Max and I couldn't even tell I was towing anything. The Vortec Max package also comes with a 14 bolt rear end, which is stronger than the regular rear end. The Vortec Max you are asking about sounds perfect for towing, it shouldn't struggle at all.

only problem is, they didnt offer a vmax in 06. haha, there is no gmt 800 with that package. it could possibly be a 1500HD, thats the only 1500 that came with a 6.0 (trust me on this one, i own one). and it will tow the shit outta what ever you need. gas milage is about 10-14 depending on how you drive(thats with my lift and tires). in the end, someone is telling you stories.

The Vortec Max Package was started in 2006. The motor was originally designed for Cadillacs.

This is a great motor, especially if you get a Black Bear tune. The 6.0 is detuned a ton from the factory.

The 2006-2007 GMT800 trucks had 347hp and 380ft/lbs of torque. A very capable motor stock, but like I said get a Black Bear tune and it's a beast.

Ya, it is a MAX 1500 ext. cab.

Here is a pic of the truck.

I was looking at the warranty history on this truck through my fleet access to GMs system.

It has had a new transmision and about a 1000 or so miles later it got a new valve body put on the transmision. The truck only has 28k on it and the valve body was replaced at 27K the trans was replaced at about 26000. Were there any trans problems that were common with this motor trans pkg?

No, not really. Not unless they stuck a 4L60E instead of the 4L80E in that sucker...

Pretty sure it has a 4L70E, like the GMT900's have...or maybe a 4L65E?

Hmmm...I would take the 4L70E over the 4L65E....

Here is the trans as listed on the build sheet.

M70 - 4-SPEED AUTO TRANS. SUPERDUTY

Does the M70 = 4L70E

I'm almost positive they stuck 4L80e behind the 6.0 for the 1500HD. I'm too lazy to verify this but I was looking into them before I got my current truck and that was one of the things I did like about them.

Back to your questions about towing and mileage.

My Vmax with 4.10 gears (stock tires) gets about 13.0 mpg around town, which includes some short freeway driving with lots of street driving. I drive moderately aggressively. I just came back from a 2000 mile trip to Oregon and drove at around 80 mph the whole trip. Average for the trip, which included 4 days of town driving (about 30 miles a day), was 15.4 mpg. It has a Snugtop SuperSport shell that is cab high.

As for towing, all I've ever towed was a 4000 lb V-8 Jeep (flat tow). It towed it like it was barely there, even up in the 4000 ft elevations.

Lq9 motor (6.0) and M30 (4L60e) trans and heck yeah they made them, I know of 2 myself.

Tuned they really wake up, and mileage is very similar to your current 5.3 with alot better towing.

Good luck
