I cant remove the bowtie from my tail gate because it is on with that double sided thick foam "tape". My truck is across the country from me right now so I havent looked at the one in my grille shell to see if comes out but I dought it does.

It can be removed. My entire tailgate has been debadged, but it can be a pain to remove all of the adhesive. The front bowtie pops out easy enough though. When I painted the bowties on the wifey's Tahoe, I taped the rear bowtie off and covered the entire rear end with plastic and painted it on the vehicle. I just didn't feel like trying to get that crap off just to put it on again.

I happened to have self-etching primer laying around from a previous job, so I just used about 2-3 coats of that. Then I lightly sanded and used 4-5 coats of Duplicolor acrylic enamel. I didn't wet sand, because I sprayed until the paint was glossy as hell and uniform. Then I did 3-4 coats of Duplicolor clear. Both the front and the rear look professional and it was very easy to do. I did the front one on my truck almost 2 years ago now and it still looks good.

Pop the hood and reach down behind the grille. You will see the two black tabs sticking through the grille as well as two pegs. Take a small flat head screwdriver and push in on the tabs one side at a time. While pushing in on the tab, push on the pegs and it will pop out.
