More On Tach Problem

i have an 04 GMC Serria 1500 crew cab with a 5.3 engine. about a year ago the tack just stopped working, it is stuck on 800 rpm. dealship said it is past warranty , it is now starting to bother me. can anybody point me into a direction that i can start looking at or how to troubleshoot this? all information is greatly appriciated. thak you

You can replace it yourself if you know how to solder. Here's a thread showing the procedure for replacement.

Or you can ship it off to these guys and have them repair it. Since you've got the panel that has had problems, I'd replace all of them.

You could always live without a tach.

How many miles on your truck? If it's 70K or less (I do believe) you should be able to get it repaired for free....the TSB is located here somewhere covering it.

How many miles on your truck? If it's 70K or less (I do believe) you should be able to get it repaired for free....the TSB is located here somewhere covering it.

Sorry to hear that....it's either an IPC replacement or repair (stepper motor) it yourself now.
