Michelin Ltx At/2

How many of you are running or have run them. Need to get 4 new tires before snow season and I'm thinking about a set of LTX AT/2's in stock 265/70/17 but upgrading to a LT tire. Michelins are quite pricey but they are running a $70 rebate right now to ease the pain in the wallet a bit.

Tire guy told me that the LTX AT/2's are quiet and long lasting but still perform well on snow/mild off-road. I plan to purchase a travel trailer next spring and want to get away from the OEM "P" rated stuff. Was also told that Michelin's LT tires do not ride like they are chiseled from stone like some LT tires do. Opinions?

Thanks

.. from all accounts these are very good tires... for LT rated use, and for mixed highway and snow terrain....

.. I have TOYO's but, everyone I hear from really raves about their Michelin LTX tires.... and a rebate will definitely soften the pain to the wallet... they are expensive tires.....

Mine are whisper quiet, no road noise. They ride real well. I don't believe they have the traction that my Bridgestone Revos had, but the revos were noisy as hell.

Are you using the "P" or the "LT" tires?

Great tire rides really nice very quite on the road with a lot more grip than bfg's in the sand and rain.LT's here also D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recently started looking at the LTX AT/2 as my "preferred" replacement tire and the LT is only available in "E" rating (i.e., no C or D) in 265/70/17. Is that correct? Since I don't off-road really, I wasn't too concerned about getting an AT tire for performance, but they do look best on a Z71 (IMHO). I was curious about their quietness too. If the E tire rides that well (@ ~45 psi unloaded pressure), then that would be my preference for towing (@higher pressure).

I'll be picking up my Michelin LTX AT/2's on Wednesday next week. Not sure what everyone paid, but I got mine priced out at $250/tire Canadian, installed and balanced. As far as I was concerned, these were the best tires I could get for the money, brand name, etc. I do a lot of towing, so I'm picking up the LT "E" rated tires, in the 265/75R16 size. Can't wait to swap out my crappy stock BF Goodridge tires

Well, perhaps i am the best 'witness' for Michelin tires... i refused to buy them after coming back from you-know-where, and why i wouldn't buy them!!!

HOWEVER, when i joined a drag race team[Koulan and Picou] in 1980, they used nothing but 'Mich's'[Dale Smart turned them on to Michelin-he toured for years-NEVER had one bit of trouble]. So, I'm TELLIN' ya----after 29 years of towing 10-15,000 lb trailers-going everywhere on race circuit, and towing various boats... i have NEVER had ONE BIT OF TROUBLE---they last 50-60,000 miles on my Duallies-and LTX is only load range 'E'-and the only series i have ever used.BTW: get their 'trailer tire', not their truck tire for your trailers... they have stronger sidewalls to thwart side motion trailers often exhibit....

I always have them put on the balance machine when i order them[bTW_I use internet "TireDiscount.com"-get them quickly-and cheaper-plus no sales tax].... But, I have never had to add more than 1/2 oz. for balance[MOST times none is needed!].

I could not agree with this statement more. The initial purchase price of their products may be more than competitors, but with proper care and maintenance they will last much longer and you will be much happier with them.

For years, 30 or more, all I run on all five trucks/cars is Michelins. I run the LTX A/T2, 275-65-18 on my 09 Sierra ….good in wet and dirt etc…no road noise…do not seem to handle as well as my LTX M/S (LTs in 15 inch on my 90 gmc sub) seem to wander a bit…had them trued and high speed balanced on truck and made it ride like glass…a lot better than discount could do after two tries….they are rock throwers, as they pick up gravel etc and have really hurt my paint…

I may replace soon with the new LTX M/S2, as they now make the M/S in my size. They work well on my 90 sub and are good off road unless you rock climb or something…I do not drive in snow but hear the M/S is good in snow as is the A/T…I do drive in mesquite and thorn country a lot and no flats with either due to thorns or stumps etc…have to pull the thorns out of the side walls after a hunt or ride thru pasture ….

When I replace mine, they will not be with Michelins. They are an OK tire, a little over hyped IMHO.

Maybe Hankook, or Hercules next time.

Where abouts did you pick them up for that price Flames?

The last set I purchased for my 97 were bought at Costco in Ajax, I believe they were somewhere around $850 installed OTD? The were the 265/70 R16 load rated "C"'s in the LTX M&S series.

I have said it in various posts in this forum before, I have had them and used them for my last 2 trucks and when the snow flies(which won't be long!) they will also be going on my new 09 Sierra!

They are by far the best tire I have ever run, they last forever it seems and ride and handle great imo.

My last set had 85,000 km's on them and people, including where the truck was taken to be safetied for my Nephew, couldn't believe they had 85,000km's on them! They passed the safety no problem and are still going strong.

Sure they may cost a little more but they will outlast any or almost any tire out there, compare the price versus the longevity and I bet they are actually cheaper than most full size truck tire.

+1 I forgot to say I that I get 100,000 miles plus on my LTX M/S on my 90 sub, on my third set and have 356,000 on the truck...truing and high sp balance on the truck help the tire last... will see what the A/T2s do if I do not switch for the M/S2s
