just wondering what you guys would say for common problems for the 04 silvys or sierras...the steering clunk is all i know really

Instrument Clusters noisy, malfunction(warranteed to 70K, I believe)

Rear brakes-uneven pad wear, e-brake shoe rubs

Might be a couple other things but in general they're pretty solid trucks

Pretty solid but there are a few things that pop up from time to time.

1. intermediate steering shaft (you already know about)

2. Slip yoke makes noise and can be fixed by re-packing the joke splines with grease.

3. Gauge cluster has been known to give out on the 04's but GM is giving a 70,000 mile warranty on them

4. Either the 4x4 front actuator or the switch on the dash go bad. You'll get a "Service 4wd" indicator on the dash if either one goes.

Otherwise pretty solid trucks.

I have an 03 2WD and I drive it fairly hard..I haven't had any issues...not even the steering clunk. Don't know if its only a 4X4 issue though.

Sorry...I did have the Speedo give out, but it was while I was test driving it...so they got me a new one.

I kinda feel gypped for buying the extended warranty, of course if i didn't it would have been a lemon.

What engine?

4WD switch

radio lights

heater door actuator. The heater door is the biggest freaking pain in the ass. Nothing like blowing 200 degree air on the passenger while the driver gets a refreshing 60 degree arctic chill. A big F you to the jackass the designed the system and the company that makes the overpriced $200 actuator and the $100 labor charge to recalibrate the system.

Since you didn't answer what engine..... if you have the 5.3 then a known head problem exists. Certain Castech heads are prone to cracking and leaking coolant. I haven't heard about a trans pump seal problem. Later models, I have heard about them. Only problems with mine, IP cluster and IS shaft. Both replaced courtesy GM.

Any of the 4L60 trans can give problems if abused.

One source of info would be to gain access to TSB and recall info for your vehicle.
