Dic Question

I have an 09 sierra 3500 diesel, without the DIC buttons.

 

Is it possible to get the extra features that come with the DIC buttons?

Can I reprogram it or add something to enable the features?

 

Or am I out of luck....not that big of deal, but was wondering.

I have heard that if you buy the DIC panel with the buttons, you just plug & play. Don't quote me on that .... hopefully someone else with a definite answer will chime in.

Hey JsDirt, that would be nice if I could just plug and play....I had heard that if you didnt get the DIC with buttons, you were outa luck as to getting the additional features....

I wouldnt mind having the average MPG active....maybe its better not knowing though

Yes, if you add the DIC panel with buttons, the features work. It can be had for as little as $68 and a few minutes of your time.

Is there a direct plugin for the buttons, or do you need to splice in somewhere.

 

It seems there isnt a precut slot in the dash either.....

If you want to double check you can always pull the panel off and check for the wires, mine had the wires plugged into a blank on the back of the panel. The panel pops off rather easy just have to be gentle.

The links really show all this....amazing, 37 pages on this one topic. I just ordered mine from GM direct.

 

I just bought this truck a few days ago, and the service man said DIC could not be added, except at the factory. He said special modules would have to be added under the hood....

I figured he might be wrong....glad I asked, as this option was something I wanted...the truck was brought in from another state, so I couldnt actually see it, before purchase...

 

before the truck arrived, the sales manager told me even though it didnt have the DIC buttons, I still could get all the menus through the one single push button. He was wrong of coarse....these sales managers will tell you anything for the sale, I suppose.

Just a quick intallation followup....

I received my DIC buttons/panel from GM Direct, and installed it in probably 20 minutes max. Besides the panel/buttons, GM direct included instructions with pictures...they added a few more steps over the forum advice, but still, very simple install.

They had me remove the side panel where the fuses are located, then remove the "front hood release lever" (1 bolt - 10 mm socket), and then remove what they call the bottom kicker panel (2 phillip screws)...this basically just gives you more access to remove the DIC panel.

 

Anyway, very easy and now I have those DIC functions! All the functions work as advertised, and a whole lot cheaper than a factory installed option. I am guessing to get the DIC buttons, you have to buy a package group, which I think is around 1100 dollars.

I installed the DIC in my 2011 GMC Sierra WT, all functions work except for the

actual/instant MPG, did I miss something?
