Ecm Update For 08 Silverado

I bought my truck back in December of '07, it's an 08 Crew Silverado 4x4 w/ the 5.3L. Since it was built, I'm assuming there have been some updates on the programming and computers on these trucks. Could I go to the dealer and have them update the ECM on my truck? It runs good, but there is just a little bit of a shudder at idle (needle barely moves, I can just feel it in the seat) and it has a funny shift at time when I'm rolling to a stop and then press the gas. It's hard to explain, it's almost like it wants to downshift to 2nd, but then decides to go to third. It's maybe in 2nd for a half second.

Is it even worth taking it to the dealer to have them upload the new programming on my truck, and about how much would they charge to do that? Would I see any benefits to this?

I don't think the dealership will just re-flash your computer. If there was a specific problem, they might, but in some cases you could cause more problems than help. I'd talk to the dealership and see what they say about it.

It's still in warranty as I only have 26K on the truck. I don't have any problems, I just wasn't sure if it was just something that you can have done or if you have to have a reason/problem to have them reflash it.

I read where somebody that their computer reflashed that helped some shifts on his truck, but other than that he didn't have many problems with it.

I just wasn't sure if it was worth having it done if nothing was acting up or wrong. I know in the Dodge/Cummins world that they have updates and flashes every once and a while that you can have done whether or not you have a problem.

Probably that was for an early 6-speed auto.... those did get updates from GM.

My 08' VortecMax had the same idleing problem and weird shifting, also on a very slight up hill at a steady part throttle (45-55 mph) it had what almost felt like a miss. The dealer said the idle was norma, they didn't notice any shifting problems, and they couldn't reproduce the "miss". So they didn't do anything for me. I had a blackbear tune done just after that and it pretty much fixed all three problems. its definately worth the money for the tune.
