Possible Lifter Issue?

Ok guys 07 Silverado 5.3 12K miles

ONLY when i first start it up in the Am when its cold does the truck make a clicking sound...

Is this somethign that is normal on ALL of these trucks or should i take it in and have it checked out?

Oh yeah.. it goes away with in a matter of a 20 seconds or so... won't do it if i shut off the truck and restart.

My 07 VMAX does the same thing as does lots of the guys' trucks on here. Dealer will tell you it's normal.....but we still don't have to like it. My truck has 51K on it and I've had no problems as a result of the lifter "peck".

To tell the truth....I've owned many Chevy trucks and this is the best one I've ever had. I still look forward to driving it and I've had it going on 3 years.

Mine did it last fall/winter season. Haven't noticed it yet this year. Last year I was still using original oil from the factory as I had under 5000 miles on it. Since then I have changed the oil twice with Mobil 1 (just over 10000 miles on the truck now).

This is very normal. GM is not the only one that does this. It is very common with any hydraulic lifter motor. After sitting for a while the lifter will lose pressure and there will be a slight amount of lash in the valve train. As soon as the truck starts the pressure builds back up and the slack is gone.

I don't think mine is normal. Its loud and lasts for up to 15 mins. Dealer did witness it and says they can't fix it until updated lifters are available, which is supposed to be SOON.

I would say that is not normal. Yes the hyd roller lifters will lose prime the longer they sit and that will result in more valve lash than spec. But the poster is saying it does it for 20 secs or more. If your lifters are taking that long to prime and pump up then IMO something is wrong. 2-5 secs yes but more than that is suspect IMO. I've heard mine do it also when it has sat for a long period. But the lifter tick goes away in 1-3 sec. I would contact the dealer and have it documented.
