the things that lit my fuse were the following...please not i love my truck but GM should of stepped up to the plate and helped us blue collars out

1: transmission issues

2: steering clunk

3: brakes(i'm going on my 3rd paire in the rear and they squeek like hell)

4:interior noises man oh man i get vibration, creeks, popping

5: HVAC i got noises and i know alot of folks get blend door issues

6: front end suspension, it just seems like it dosen't take the beatings well

I disagree with all but number 2 as my truck is on it's third intermediate shaft.

My brakes do squeak a little when cold...but the trucks stops fine and I have not had to replace anything yet.

I'm gonna disagree with all of the above....I get a little bit of vibration...but its my inner fender, and I could fix it...but I'm lazy.

The only thing I want to change is stuff like putting leather in it, fog lights...mostly stuff from the LT model.

only thing I dont like, or didnt like is the door panels, its like they just gave up when it came to them. very bland. Other then that....... the sheet metal on the roof pops when going through the carwash, I dont like the computer between my right foot and and the amount of power output but I can see the advantages of the system.

-Steering shaft has been replaced under recall

-New front brakes, but it was because of a dragging caliper, probably from sitting on the dealers lot for 6 months before I got it.

Steering shaft issue is my only complaint. I removed it, re-lubed it about 30K miles ago and it has been fine.

1. Transmission issues - my truck has 111,000 miles - no issues so far.

2. Steering clunk - addressed above

3. Brakes - replaced rotors and pads sometime ago. For wear, it does not seem to be any better or worse than any other vehicle I've owned

4. Ineterior noises - not many on my truck. My other vehicle is a convertable, so driving the Silvy is a welcome change. It is almost isolation chamber like, which I enjoy after a stressful day at work.

5. HVAC. Low speed fan setting not working. Will fix before spring gets here.

6. Front end suspension - Mine works just fine. After spending $24,000.00 on a truck, abusing it is about the last thing I want to do. For a 1/2 ton and being a Harry Homeowner, my Silvy does everything it is supposed to do. Haul the mulch in the spring, trash to the dump, pull the boat etc.

I find that the money I spent on my truck has been well spent so far. It starts and runs everytime I hit the key. It pulls my boat in the summer time, and pulls my kids boy scout troop trailer without any problems.

Couple of things that I don't like is:

Turning radius. The only thing bigger is a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. In parking lots it is a PIA. I had a full size Excursion assigned to me for work, it was much easier to park. My Dad's F150 turns a bit tighter and is easier to put in a parking space.

Lack of underhood light on a 24k vehicle.

Lack of vanity mirror on drivers side.

I've got to disagree with all your list. #2 was fixed by GM and is working well still. I have no complaints. Truck has been virtually maintenance free except for the normal stuff, belts, hoses, coolant, oil, filters, diff and tranny fluid. Brakes have 79k on them and still stopping well with no squeaking or squealing.

Burt,

Maybe you've been doing a bit too much of the Smokey and the Bandit thing with your truck.

Hmmm. Well both my 2000 and then the 2006 were piles of junk that did their best to nickel and dime a person to death. If it was some weird electrical problem, the 2006 had it. That truck was enough to drive a person insane. It spent more time sitting at dealerships for failures than it spent on the road. The 2000 wasn't that bad by any stretch but it was far from trouble free. I can't say that I was sad to see the change to 900 series trucks.

The turning radius, I am so used to parking in the back 40 I forgot about it. I think a nimitz class can turn in side it self with the aid of bow thrusters, That keeps our turning radius right at the bottom of the list.

3. I've replaced everything in my braking system all at once, 2 times now for overheating issues. And I still have to start stopping for the stoplight ahead of me a few miles before I get to it...

4. I get a few creaks and rattles here and there from an inside panel, but it's usually on days when the temperatures are abnormally low and the sounds are never permanent.

Those are the only problems I've had that bothered me or weren't an easy fix under warranty. I've maintained the thing at all the regular intervals and it treats me just as well.

+1. I have to park in the tiniest parking lot. I have less than an inch between the line and the tire on both sides, and the driving area in the lot is really narrow, too. Parking a truck there is a pain in the ass. Especially when all the pricks in their little Fits and Corollas park so crappy that you can't even get in a parking spot. Having a better turn radius on these trucks would really make life much easier.

My only complaint is that I can't go to the store and buy another one just like the one I have. Yes I have had some problems but nothing to make me want to cut my nose off my face. Still on the OEM brakes front and rear, may have a little tick in this motor, orignal went 150,000 before I got stupid and let it blow a head gasket and the wash down the cylinder walls, still drove about 5 miles before it said no more. Got about 170,000 miles on her now and she still starts from the seat, and drives like a new one (almost)!!!

haha i drive like an **** and the brakes on my silverado have shown almost no wear. and as for the shitty front ends.. i have beat the front end of my truck and it has held up fine and dosent clunk.. i knocked it out of alignment when i hit a log on a dirt road going 40 and thats about it. the trucks only got 55k on it so maybe stuff will break as i close in on 80k. i have also caught about 1 foot of air going 70... front end held up fine..

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
