Synthetic Switch

Hey guys, I know this has been discussed to death, but I couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for. My 2009 2500HD 6.0L is coming up on 1500 miles. I am thinking I am going to switch to synthetic. Is it too early to do this? I live near Boston mass so the climate is warm in the summer and cold in the winter (haha). What weight synthetic should I use? I wasn't quite sure. Thanks!

Factory fill in the corvettes 6.0L engines...and now in the Camaro, vette and Cadaliac 6.2L...I know for sure. Maybe the 6.2 in the trucks as well.

They all come with Mobil 1

And I use synthetic break-in oil on most every new engine I build...than dump it out after burning a couple gallons of fuel and burning in the cam and fill the crankcase with Synthetic of what ever flavor the customer wants...or I use Royal Purple.

So, I can assume that mine has conventional since synthetic is not stated anywhere on the truck or in the book? Given that I have 1300 miles on it now, should I switch to synthetic now? or should I just wait an oil change or 2 and then switch? thanks!

i thought you where asking about diffs, sorry

no problem, actually I was going to ask about those as well!! haha what about the diffs, would you change the fluids at some point as well to get out the break in junk? Just curious

There is a magnet that will catch break in debris in the diff. A new one can get to 300 degrees F when breaking in, thats why towing is frowned on in the first five hundred miles or so. But with extreme heat the fluid can be compromised, so changing it is a good idea.

On new trucks and cars that come with synth factory fill the Mobil 1 logo is stamped on the oil fill cap. And like was said...you can change to synthetic whenever you like...my 03 had its first oil change at 3000km and the company that leased it than used Pennzoil platinum for every oil change until I got it...than I continued but went up to M1 for a while...than went with Royal Purple.

The diffs are definitely synth factory fill, a synthetic Gear oil made for GM by Rotella I believe I read somewhere. The trans and T-case should be also. Should have Dexron IV ATF in there...thats the new GM synthetic fluid. Not sure what the T-case has in there..it used to be Autotrac II blue fluid...but I think someone said they changed over to something else now....maybe the Dexron IV also.

Awesome!, thanks very much for the great info! So... that being said, would you recommend getting the diffs changed as well when I do the first oil change? or is that overkill and I should wait a bit? Thanks for putting up with these repetitive questions!

Its up to you...its not a recommended service, but you can change every fluid in your truck on a weekly basis if you want...

Personally...I would allow the truck to go through the break in period (5K) with the diff oil thats in there now...than swap it out on the next oil change that follows. If i was going to change it at all.

WTI futures <> current 4-7% inflation and national average gas price over $4.00/gallon.   The spot price, at delivery, is currently $87-$95/barrel which is why gas prices remain high.   Edit: oH mY gOd mEnTaL BrEaKdoWn In tHE pOsT aBOve mInE. • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
