Looking For Advice 6" Gm Oval Or 3" Round Step Bars

Picked up a 2010 Sierra 1500 carbon black CC about 3 months ago and am loving it, however the kids and wife are complaining about getting into it. Had originally thought I was going to get the 6" Gm oval steps to help them out but after looking at the GMC website seen the 3" round steps which look pretty good as well. Just looking for comments from owners of either ones with reasons why they picked the ones they did or any complaints or problems with them to try and help narrow it down. Also does someone have a ballpark cost on these steps in Canada, havent had time to call the dealer yet.

Thanks

I have the 6" oval and they are great. Like running boards with the tube look...

Good luck

I decided on the 6" ovals because they looked more "heavy-duty". I have access through work to pretty good employee discounts on GM parts, so the cost wasn't quite as bad. But they are expensive. Retail in US is over $600 for the set, but you can find real good deals on some of the discount GM Parts website. I've also seen them several time on eBay.

BTW, I got mine because of my wife and daughter. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought them!!

Here's a picture of my '07 right after I installed mine:

I had this same dilemna. Young kids and old customers were causing the problem. My wife told me I could not get rid of them both, so I went with the 3" round in black powdercoat. I purchased some Steelcraft 3" round from AutoAnything. Total cost was $158.00. I'll put up some pics as soon as they show up and are installed. To be honest, I was really torn between the two. I think the rounds give it a little more aggressive look, (whatever that means, but you get my drift) but I really like the ovals as pictured above in MAs post. That is one nice truck.

I just got a set of black oem 3" steps from gm parts direct today $300shipped to the door. They are hopefully going on my greystone crew cab tomorrow. I went with these because there are 4 brackets each that hold them on. Most of the 3" tubes mount on the ends with a little brace in the middle. I didn't like the 6" ovals. They stick out too far for my taste. Oh and they are power coated stainless which is hard to find. Most are just powder coated steel.

I went with the 3" round stainless. It's all I need to assist me getting in. (I'm 62) I choose it because the ICE & SNOW fall off it better. Just seemed more pratical for me as I don't usually have others riding in my truck on a regular basis. I like them. Bought the Nasta

ive been wondering the same thing myself. i was thinking the 6'' would be better because i might aid in protecting the underside of the rocker and door pannels from the tires while not having the total 80's running board look and still maintain that sporty nerf bar.

I'm picking up my new 2010 in about 2 weeks and it'll have the ovals. I just don't like the round ones.

The ovals are far more functional in my opinion; the extra width gives a more substantial surface to step on, and protects the paint better from rocks/tar/etc. being slung all over the lower doors.

I just installed the black Westin Platinum Oval 4" bars and I love them; around $220 from Autoanything. They were an easy install. It's a matter of taste, but I think the 6" bars look too big.

I'd get what you like. I personally prefer the 3", but that's just opinion. Things I like: thicker metal, "sleeker" look, and being able to easily wash around the bar and the rocker panel. The 6" are nice too, but for different reasons. Either way, I prefer the GM mount system (4-pt @ rocker panel) over most of the aftermarket frame-mounts, although a few use the GM mount method.
