'09 Silverado Navigation Upgrade Questions

High guys, first post so here goes….got some GM navigation unit questions.

 

I have an '09 Silverado LTZ with the single CD radio and a backup camera in the rearview mirror. I really wanted the navigation unit but didn't want the rear seat entertainment setup, heck I don't plan to sit back there. But I do want a DVD capable nav unit since I might unlock it in the future to play while moving.

 

 

So can I purchase and install the navigation unit for trucks with the rear seat entertainment system even though mine doesn't have it?

 

I assume the non-rear seat nav doesn't play DVDs which is why I don't want to buy that one?

 

After searching here and a bunch of other forums, installing a nav unit seems straight forward, I am going to do the install myself.

 

How involved is the reprogramming to make it work with my truck? Can I expect a halfway competent local GM mechanic to know what I am asking for or am I going to get a blank stare.

 

Already have a backup camera in the rearview and I want to leave it there, will this cause any hang-ups?

you can install the nav with rear seat option with no problem, you should not have any problem getting the radio programmed it is simple. I work at a GMC dealership and we install alot of nav radio upgrades and we only install the one that plays DVDs. you wont have any problems with the back up camera the will just program the radio with out the back up camera option.

hey any suggestions on how to unlock a 2008 gm navigation theftlock? I know im gonna need an amp to make the volume work as i want to but the theftlock thing is not letting me continue with my project.. I have an 07 nbs silverado single cab.. Took it to the dealer and the couldnt unlock it... Help please!!!
