Earlier today me and my buddy where going to get parts for his van, when going down a hill my truck losts its brakes and we eneded up side swiping a guard rail. the passenger side front is what took the hit. i just, i still cant believe this happened. the truck was in really good shape and everything and now this. the door still opens and the hood opens,shuts and latches good with no issues. my buddys brother is going to bring his f-150 over tomorrow and pull the front bumper away from the wheel and going to fix the brakes on it. (master cylinder) and im taking it to a shop to get it looked (frame and suspention damage mainly) and im really really hopen the frame and everything is ok. if the frame is good, im going to try and fix it. this just plain sucks. hopen that this year was going to be better than last and now this. :)

 

thanks for anyone reading this i really needed to get this out. and im sorry for any grammar spelling mistakes im really tired and cant sleep right now with what happened. again thanks for letting me get this out.

 

and p.s. the main thing is that no one was hurt.

i did. tho a lil late after hitting the guard rail it happened so fast and with out warning, and trying to avoid a car just didnt work out that way. it still drove ok tho. this just sucks

Next time use the "parking brake". It might help. Glad no one was hurt.

Sucks when the Master goes...like you know now...not really any warning most of the time.

yeah...seen it a few times and been there a couple too....it just fails....no warning...just driving along..and NO BRAKES

 

Good thing is...the parts for your truck are cheap...LMC Truck is your friend here.

 

Fenders are so cheap...I wouldn't bother with bondo and body work, just get a new one.

same with lights bumpers and grilles...if you broke any of these.

 

Chances of a bent frame from a side swipe is slim...especially from a guard rail.

You loose one of the seals in the master cylinder? Wouldn't you still have 1 set of wheels that stop or have I been misinformed about the added safety of dual master cylinder?

So when your master cylinder goes out, there's absolutely no warning? :rollin:

its a 50/50...been more like 80/20 for me though.

 

And yeah...depending on what goes in there, you can just lose fronts or rears....sometimes though...you lose everything, and there is no warning.

 

Whats worse though...is if your booster goes....you basically have to stand on the brakes to get the vehicle to slow down...without that vacuum assist its hard to push.

Usually, when a dual master goes, here is what has happened. The rear seal has probably been gone out for some time first, but you do not notice. (The only time it shows is on gravel or sandy surfaces, the front tires seem to lock up easily)

 

Then, after some time, the front seal lets loose in the master cylinder, and at that point Bang!, No brakes.

 

Very seldom do both go at once, but you just do not realize the rear seal is gone, since they do only a small amount of braking.

 

 

And no, the brake light may not warn you, because of a stuck valve, or a light out.

There's not a valve in the brake lines like on the 70s Chevys that if you loose 1 set of brakes the dash light lights? The valve I've seen on those cars had a piston in the middle and and contact, if you lost the fronts or rears the pressure differential would push the piston to 1 side and make up the circuit and light the brake light.

 

I guess a lot more vehicles had it than I thought, and I guess it's called a combination valve. http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techar...s/photo_05.html
