"easter Eggs" / Quirks About The Gmt900 Vs Gmt800

thought I'd start a thread about so of the differences I've noticed between my 2009 Sierra vs my old 2003 Silverado.

Any ever notice:

*you can't turn the dash lights off? they dim some, but don't turn completely off.

*turn signal - if you "tap" the signal (without locking it in to the on position) it will flash 4 times minimum

*there is no independent cargo light switch (I've seen the thread for a mod to remedy this, I might do it), I liked being able to turn on my cargo light while driving at light to inspect the bed without blinding myself with the interior lights

*the "4-High" mod is now standard. when high beam head lights are activated the low beams stay on... this is a good thing. I have yet to figure out how to keep my fog lights on when the high beams are activated (I go to remote areas often and I like full control of my lights).

*I was aggravated that the Daytime Running Lights are now the low beam headlights, I would prefer it to have been the parking lights.

*Stabilitrac - the most annoying thing ever when driving on gravel roads. I'm used to being on gravel and if the truck starts to slide a bit in the curves I just let it drift a little and it comes right back in line.... Stabilitrac scared the crap out of me the first time it activated and took control of my brakes. I guess in general it's a good thing but I could do without it.

*I want my 4 wheel disc brakes back.... I hate servicing drum brakes, that's my only real complaint on that subject because otherwise they do work well.

so anyway, that's my list of thoughts as I get ready to mail off my first truck payment. Anything I missed? Comments?

I also went from a 2003 Silverado to an 09 Sierra...

1 and 3 absolutly drive me nuts! Also things my 03 had that this one doesn't:

- No 4wd indicator light

- No Auto Headlight Override indicator light

- No one-touch window down on the passenger side

The 09 DOES have:

- LINT LINT LINT LINT LINT LINT LINT CAT HAIR WIFE HAIR LINT LINT LINT LINT

This became standard on later GMT800 models. Mine's that way from the factory on my '06.

The *only* feature I would ever want on mine from a GMT900 is the 6-speed tranny. I love the look of the GMT800 Z71 SUVs - there's just not enough distinction among the GMT900 SUVs to tell from far away whether they are LS/LT/Z71/LTZ.

So that's how you turn on the cargo light! I swear I never knew how the hell to turn it on. I agree, that is an annoying feature.

The turn signal tap thing is by design. It's called a lane change...something. I don't remember. Mine flashes three times if I tap it, but if it's in tow/haul mode it flashes six times.

Another difference is the wipers. If you use the front window washer at speeds below x miles per hour (I don't know what the number is,) they will stop wiping for a couple seconds, then wipe once more to get those last drips. I think it's kind of neat.

The things I have to add from my 2001 expirence is that...

1) The auto headlights come on when the key is turned. I used to be able to set the park brake and the auto lights would not come on till it was released. Since I back in my driveway I don't want to flash my neighbors windows 1st thing in the morning.

2) Also when it rains it sounds like their is a leak in the drivers door by my left shoulder. I contribute it to their being a 1/2 inch indention where the door metal meets the glass. The 2001 was a smooth transition there or maybe my ventshades prevented this from happening on my old truck?

My gmt-900 has em

haven't tried that, interesting... I've only had the truck for ~ a month and a half and so far I've only hooked up to a small utility trailer (that didn't justify tow/haul).

haven't noticed that either, I'll have to check it out.

While the 6.2L would have been nice, I didn't really need it, plus the fuel economy and initial purchase cost was a factor in addition to buying one of the last '09's on the lot I didn't have a lot of selection available.

Looks like you're not driving that 6.2 like it's supposed to be driven then.

Convenient for those that try to lane change by flashing their blinkers once.

I take it this is what you are referring to?.........Cargo Light Mod

Here ya go...........GMT900 6-Hi Mod

*I was aggravated that the Daytime Running Lights are now the low beam headlights, I would prefer it to have been the parking lights.

Same here, I got rid of them all-together and got some HIDs.

My 04 had em and I loved em, too bad mt 07 doesn't. Like you I hate servicing those things! :D

Congrats on the truck, happy modding!

IMO the gmt800s are better quality... that being said, the gmt900s look better and the interiors are extremely better.
