now the question is: how much is that price of corn fuel being held down artificially by Federal tax incentives?

the cost of E85 is artificially low, when those tax incentives are removed, what will you be left with?

I may be wrong but I thought the tax incentives ended for E85 sometime ago? Fall 09???

The federal incentive may have expired but alot of states have continued giving tax breaks at a state level. Our E85 doesn not have the state road tax added.

Here is all my E85 and Premium data as of 4-18-10. For Reference I have 4150 total miles.

E85

Total Miles

2034

E85 Total Gallons

172.9

Avg MPG

11.8

Total Cost

$409.85

Avg Cost per Gallon $2.35 (Same price since Nov, has never went up or down)

Premium

Total Miles

2264

93 Octane

152.8

Avg MPG

14.82

Total Cost

$422.65

Avg Cost per Gallon

$2.77 (Range $3.02 to $2.62 a gallon)

In Summary: Gas at $2.77 average ends up being 18.7 cents a mile and E85 is 20 cents a mile. Gas has been over $2.77, more in the $2.90's so at this price it is breakeven at 20 cents a mile.

Actually with your mileage separation (11.8 to 14.82) and cost of E85 (2.35) you need a 60 cent difference to break even. You truck only gets 79% the fuel mileage it did with E85 compared to gasoline so in turn your E85 has to be 21% cheaper than gas or gas is 21% more than your E85. Either way with E85 at 2.35 you gas would have to be 2.95 or higher to break even or be a cost benefit.

Either way I like the way E85 has been running in my pickup. I can get it for 1.95 a gallon. I went from a 16.979 second quarter mile to a 16.379 quarter mile running "moonshine"
